After his big meeting with his economic advisors ... just a heads up.

(It'll be interesting to see what the stock market does as he speaks ... it seems every time Bush goes live while the markets are open, it tanks.)

    You have stats on that?

    SHOW COUNT: (164) 1990's=3, 2000's=53, 2010/20's=108, US=118, CAN=15, Europe=20 ,New Zealand=4, Australia=5
    Mexico=1, Colombia=1

  • starting now, for anyone interested.

    EDIT: As for the posts about the President speaking about the economy being linked to the DOW falling--it makes sense. When the most powerful man in the country comes out and reminds the country that things don't look so hot, regardless of what he's proposing or if he's proposing anything, investors tend to freeze up. Went down almost 100 points in the two minutes Obama has been talking.

    Increase length of unemployment - dow drops - coming back? Nope.

    Did he slam Nancy Reagan?

  • Not sure what the point of that press conference was, but I guess he has to be somewhat visible.

    Bush is still the president, so Obama can't put out different messages.
    Obama obviously can't comment on intelligence briefings
    He's not going to talk about cabinet positions before they are announced.

    I dunno... just seemed like a waste of time to me.

    I think it was to reassure the people that indeed, the economy is priority one on day one ... that he's working on this already ...

    opposed to say, Clinton, who didn't even annouce his cabinet until 5 days before inaugeration. Different situation, of course. But, maintaining the already fragile confidence of the public is important for the markets right now.

    Bingo.

    When people feel the President and high placed aides are working to fix the economy, they start to have confidence in it. When people have confidence in the economy, or confidence that it is going to turn around especially, people invest money.

    It's about perception. And frankly, whether you agree with Obama's proposed policies or not, he can work perceptions.
