I guess Juan Carlos Ramirez Abadia of Colombia took over where Escobar left off.. his territory, drug routes, mercenaries, murders, etc. So the US offers a $5 million reward for his capture a while back. This caused him to flee to Brazil and get a complete facial reconstruction from a plastic surgeon. He was still running the cocaine business in Colombia, however he was living in a swanky part of Brazil.

Anyways, authorities and bounty hunters throughout South America were looking for this guy... mainly for the big bounty on his head... but they couldn't find him because of his "new" face. They knew he was probably in Brazil, so the US sent down a lot of really expensive voice recognition equipment to the Brazillian authorities. They in turn used this equipment to scan wealthy and suspicious characters throughout the country. This eventually led to an exact match of a previous recording of Abadia that they had, and ultimately led to his arrest.

This probably won't do a single thing to the drug trade... as there are plenty of other people willing to pick up where he left off... but it's a victory that the government will use to distract the public from the war.

They've spent billions on curbing the drug trade, and there are more important things that government should spend their money on.. insert your ideas here;)... but atleast it was for something other than Iraq!
Whoa, chill bro... you know you can't raise your voice like that when the lion's here.
