Veal, the meat from a very young cow=calf.
I believe the male calf is used for veal not the female.
Anyway, the calf is raised in a concrete floor enclosure thingy, very small.
I believe so that the baby cow can not run, build muscle mass.
I do not know all the details to this but what I have been told
it is horrible.
I wont support that, no veal served in this house.
If any of you have any info that can shed some light on this, feel free.

Your compassion for farm animals is noble and is echoed, but I do believe what you're describing is in fact common knowledge for the most part.

    Thanks.
I didn't know this myself until last year.
Which I knew Veal was calf meat but
I didn't know about their living conditions until as of recent times.
The neighbors gave me some Veal last year.
I simply threw it in the trash.
Then later my mom told me about the whole living conditions and the
    raising of the calf.
I probably shoulda went and got a truck load of fresh moist cow-shit
and dumped it in the neighbors driveway.

  • I love a good steak and stout ale as much as the next guy, but have only ever eaten veal a few times in my life and will never eat it again after finding this out.

It's not the age of the animal that bothers me (although it does) as much as the prevention of movement to keep the meat from becoming tough.

There's some bad hormones going on in veal. Ingesting the meat of a long term distressed animal is not a good idea imo.

    so ...bump.
