    sometimes people blow me away

i believe 1 BILLION people currently do not have access to stable/clean drinking water

anyone that thinks water is not an issue, and will not be an issue... is just a flat out fool. the worlds population continues to rise and rise and rise... every resource is going to be stressed and streched... and the #1 resource that will feel this strain will be water.

until the population stops booming at an ever increasing speed, none of these problems will be solved.

    overpopulation is the real problem.

I'm going to quote this as well for a bump(even though it's just two posts up :o).

Overpopulation is the problem. Without people (or at least so damn many) around consuming (be it for drinking, manufacturing and/or farming) and polluting the water there wouldn't be a shortage.

what is the 'solution' for the water shortage?

will it take several catastrophic 'disasters' before global action is taken?

I am a noob on this topic. I haven't researched it much, mainly because I live smack dab in the middle of 3 of the Great Lakes.

Question: aside from drinking water, is there any reason we can't use salt water for every other household use? I have a water softener that I put salt INTO for freaks sakes.

More good water news in today's NY Times...it appears that Lake Mead will/could be dry within 15 years.
