so basically, it seems that most of you who use the invisible function on a regular basis do so for one or more of several reasons:
1) to lurk in peace;
2) you've made a number of enemies and would like to be able to pounce on them unannounced;
3) you've made a number of enemies and you'd prefer not to receive hateful pm's from them, timed of course to your presence on the boards;
4) you're so wildly popular that as soon as your many adoring fans see your name pop up in the Users Online section, they will begin pm'ing and posting fawning messages to you and that's just plain tiresome;
5) the all-encompassing yet weirdly inexact excuse of "right to privacy"
the problem, as i see it, is that for anyone who's paying attention, they KNOW you're online because you're more than likely POSTING. i doubt that most invisible folks just pop in to see what's up (and WHO'S ONLINE) but don't intend to actually post anything. you know y'all can't keep your mouths shut for any period of time! besides, don't your fans- and your enemies- pm you anytime, whether you're online or not??
so the reasons you give all are pretty suspect, imo. basically, you do it to have some sort of "edge" over other posters, and that, to me, signals a need on your part to compensate for other areas where you feel you may be lacking. sneak attacks aren't necessary if you have a good handle on things and if you keep in mind that this is a message board, not a battleground.
just my opinion, and NOT directed at any one particular person, though that person probably thinks that it is (see #'s 1, 2, 3 & 5 above...).

As long as all this makes you feel better about yourself, that's all that matters.

incorrect, and, that is why you fail...
trust me, i don't feel i am lacking in any areas. i'm awesome. pleased to meet you.
Invisibility doesn't really work, because you look at who has posted most recently on a forum, see who isn't listed in the names, and say, ah, it's them. It's pointless.
I'm just invisible because I like the red light shining up next to my name.

why would you need to 'pounce unexpected' or do a 'sneak attack'?? that kinda implies someone wouldn't reply or log in if they saw someone/s name below...and why would having ones name visible in any way affect how they posted
'NOT directed at any one particular person, though that person probably thinks that it is'
that person? so there is a person?
standin above the crowd
he had a voice that was strong and loud and
i swallowed his facade cos i'm so
eager to identify with
someone above the crowd
someone who seemed to feel the same
someone prepared to lead the way
Or how about posters that get banned for starting too much crap and come back pretending they are new posters? Whatcha got to hide?
now why ya gotta be hating on us for
i do it cause i can and its my right to. thats my answer and if ya dont like it then tough shit

i was just drawing from the answers others posted. don't shoot the messenger!
and the answer to the last part is, NO, i was not aiming it at anyone in particular. again, i based that on the responses my initial post received. go back and reread them if you're still flummoxed, old friend.

No one in this thread ever insinuated or said that ..........
" 2) They've made a number of enemies and would like to be able to pounce on them unannounced; "
" 3) you've made a number of enemies and you'd prefer not to receive hateful pm's from them, timed of course to your presence on the boards; "
These seem to be solely-based on what you choose to extract for the responses and the work of your own imagination.
Having a good imagination is great. It can be a very positive and productive trait. But don't try to attribute it to what other people said, you know, in reality.
Do you know how to ice skate?
If you don't, you should consider take it up. With your obvious talent for backpeddling, you'd be backskating like the wind; in a manner of hours.

why is it that some people feel uncontrollably compelled to take a perfectly fine, meant-to-be-fun thread, and get all pissy over it? :rolleyes:
a few people said that they wanted, in effect, to be able to "attack" people when they didn't see it coming or to hide until they were "ready" to reply; a few others said that they "wanted their privacy". i based my summation on those replies. again, all in fun. you remember fun, don't you?
ultimately, i don't need to explain myself to you or anyone (but least of all to you). if you don't like the thread, then there's a simple solution. GO AWAY.

Maybe you shouldn't start threads if all you expect is a glorious round of slap-ass.
You're embelishing what people said and spinning it in your own way.
So I disagree.
If that makes you whine, so be it.
What I'm reading from you, is this.
It's okay for you to get pissy, make assumptions, make silly accusations and take a few pot shots at people. But when someone (like me) disagrees, points out some facts and takes a few pot shots back; you backpeddle and get all pissy.
Oh and request I ....GO AWAY...LOL:D:D
Yeah, you remind me of someone who used to post here about two years ago, lol.
