    Progress is not made by everyone joining some new fad,

    I've been using it because I just learned about it a few days ago and thought I'd try it out. Then I realized it stays on every time you log on. I was thinking of turning it off, but now y'all have just convinced me to keep it on. :D

    Just wondering. Why do some of you decide to use the invisible function? Are you planning sneak attacks and want to maintain some weird element of surprise? :confused:

    :D

    i use it all the time. it's easier to find where my posts are in a thread (there's a red dot next to my name on each of my posts).

    so basically, it seems that most of you who use the invisible function on a regular basis do so for one or more of several reasons:

    1) to lurk in peace;

    2) you've made a number of enemies and would like to be able to pounce on them unannounced;

    3) you've made a number of enemies and you'd prefer not to receive hateful pm's from them, timed of course to your presence on the boards;

    4) you're so wildly popular that as soon as your many adoring fans see your name pop up in the Users Online section, they will begin pm'ing and posting fawning messages to you and that's just plain tiresome;

    5) the all-encompassing yet weirdly inexact excuse of "right to privacy"

    the problem, as i see it, is that for anyone who's paying attention, they KNOW you're online because you're more than likely POSTING. i doubt that most invisible folks just pop in to see what's up (and WHO'S ONLINE) but don't intend to actually post anything. you know y'all can't keep your mouths shut for any period of time! :D besides, don't your fans- and your enemies- pm you anytime, whether you're online or not??

    so the reasons you give all are pretty suspect, imo. basically, you do it to have some sort of "edge" over other posters, and that, to me, signals a need on your part to compensate for other areas where you feel you may be lacking. sneak attacks aren't necessary if you have a good handle on things and if you keep in mind that this is a message board, not a battleground.

    just my opinion, and NOT directed at any one particular person, though that person probably thinks that it is (see #'s 1, 2, 3 & 5 above...).

    ;)

    As long as all this makes you feel better about yourself, that's all that matters.

    Invisibility doesn't really work, because you look at who has posted most recently on a forum, see who isn't listed in the names, and say, ah, it's them. It's pointless.

    I'm just invisible because I like the red light shining up next to my name. :D
