Chuck Hagel

Would Hagel be a good choice for the SoS post? He's retiring from the Senate, so he'll have time. He's moderate, believes in diplomacy, and he understands how failed Bush's world view is. He's 62 years old, so there may be a threat of a POTUS run in 2012, but probably not. Of course this all hinges on Sen. Clinton turning down the job, I guess, but Hagel would be a nice post-partisan pick.

Thoughts?

EDIT: He's had foreign relations experience in Asia and Africa. He was also on the Select Committee on Intelligence.

If Clinton is Secretary of State, something I could see is Gates staying on at Defense for six months to a year, and Chuck Hagel taking the role afterwards.

But yeah, I'd like to see Hagel in this Cabinet for sure.
