This was probably someones mom, daughter, sister, wife.. not a piece of meat. disgusting. Why can't we be better to each other. I don't understand how anyone can just ignore someone who is clearly ill.

Alarming footage has been released showing a woman keel over and die in a hospital waiting room before lying face down on the floor for an hour as staff do nothing to help.

Only when another patient calls for help does 49-year-old psych patient Esmin Green receive any medical attention at the Kings County Hospital in New York.

The footage has been released by lawyers suing the hospital for negligence over the June 19 incident, the New York Daily News reports.

They also allege medical staff then tried to falsify records surrounding the death which claim Green was awake and sitting up at a time when the video clearly shows her dead on the floor.

Jamaica-born Green, who was taken to emergency for “agitation”, is seen keeling over at 5.32am, according the video’s time stamp.

She is still lying on the floor at 5.53am when a security guard comes over and looks at her for around 20 seconds before walking off.

Green then thrashes about on the floor, rolls onto her back, and at 6.08am, she stops moving altogether.

A security guard pushes his chair into view at 6.10am and stares at Green, before moving away. Finally a female patient notices Green and resuscitation equipment is called.

Hospital records say that at 6am Green was “awake, up and about, went to the bathroom”. At 6.20, she was supposedly “sitting quietly in [the] waiting room”.

The two security guards and four other hospital staff have been fired over the incident.

Green’s cause of death is not yet known.

Kings County Hospital has been under investigation by US officials since a negligence suit was filed last year alleging a history of abuse of its mental health patients.

Makes one wonder sometimes what a life is worth i this country. Would have happened had this been a white woman left to to sit there and die?

Somewhat similar in what happened to the accused cop killer Ronnie White being killed in his cell without getting an a chance to find his innocence or guilt in a court of law. Would this have happened had he been white?

    Peace

I think this has more to do with the sad state of our Mental Health System, and not a race issue...

In my state of NC, they privatized the entire Mental Health System, thus leaving many without care because private providers will not provide services to those who can't pay...including blacks, whites, latinos, asians...many find themselves in the criminal system, where they finally get some services...

  • Before we get too crazy discussing the evils of private medicine, might be important to note that Kings County is a public hospital. Not that awful shit like this doesn't happen in private hospitals too, it's just a little silly to single out "privatized" medicine on this.

I only pointed out the NC Mental Health System and it's privatization as example of the sad state of the Mental Health System as a whole...

All I know is this, the system in NC is pathetic...

my overall point, Mental Health is not a priority for many states and for this country as a whole...until some nut goes crazy with a gun, and suddenly it's a topic....for about 48 hours...

Exactly. Mental Health is not a priority, which is exactly why it was "privatized" -- so the state wouldn't have to spend as much money on it. That's the primary motivation behind most so-called "privatization" efforts (at least in the states). They take services no one wants to pay for, open them up for bid, grant the bid to the low-ball bidder, severely cut funding, and then blame "private industry" for failing when everything falls apart.

I wasn't singling you out in my post -- just trying to stem the tide of people coming on here and assuming that this happened in a private facility.

Your point is valid just trying to make small light of how race has once again becoming a factor in this country especially with you know who running for President.

There's no need to wonder. Just ask yourself how much you'd be willing to spend or do to have kept this person alive. Then you'd have your answer.

That's awful. I don't know if it's about "capitalism" as much as what the newscaster says is abuse of mentally ill people.

I'm a socialist so don't get me wrong....but how many people were in and out of that place in the hour that she lay there before she died? It's so beyond fucked up.

Humans are becoming more and more inhumane. It's absolutely tragic....heart-breaking.
  • uh...what the fuck does this have to do with the healthcare system or capitalism or race? stop politicizing it.

this is an instance of people not giving a fuck about someone dieing, and you know what? IT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME! like a few weeks ago when that guy gets hit by a car and people just walk over him because they dont want to get involved. its some kind of sick, dark trait found in some worthless shitbag human beings.

Agree. Like Eliot said, people are becoming more and more inhumane.
