not sure if anyone has posted something like this before...but i was thinking about this today. shouldn't the flags be lowered everyday until the war is over. maybe that would remind people how many of our fellow americans are being killed every day in iraq.
anyway that's the least this fucked up administration could do for sending our troops out to die for their own political agendas. i saw flags lowered in some places when james brown died, how about some love for the troops.

i agree. that way every time a little kid, or anyone else for that matter, asks a grown up how come the flags are only half way, the grown ups are reminded exactly what the cost of war is. and it'll be in their face EVERY day.

Not a bad idea at all. If I flew a flag I would do just that.

Maybe I can talk my parents into that thought, they have a flag at their lake house.
  • Sounds good to me.

In a similar vein, I don't think the folks responsible for sending troops to war should be allowed to wear poppies around Remembrance Day. And by folks responsible I mean Bush, Cheney, and any member of the government who voted for war.

The poppy is a symbol of the tragedy of war and the deaths caused by war. Let us not allow perpetrators of war to bear this noble token.

my flag has been at half since bush was elected

    agreed!
i haven't even really thought of it.,...but honestly...i completely agree! i don't hang my flag out daily, and i haven't even put it out at any holidays this year....just forgetful and then didn't bother most of the time. can't really put a flag on our home at halfstaff...but yes...i really do think anyone with a true flagpole...it would be a solemn reminder.

  • A superb idea... For all the incantations of our troops from the mouths and minds of politicians, why hasn't one of those responsible for the war posed such a notion???

    Sad, isn't it???
Trading magic for fact, no tradebacks... So this is what it's like to be an adult...

I think they should, but if they are, I don't have any faith that it will make a difference as a reminder. I should out of respect though.

Agreed, flags should consistently be a half-mass. Weren't they at half-mass around the country for weeks after 9/11?

Someone with a large plot of property in my area has put yellow flags into the ground for every soldier that we've lost, and put up a lighted board in the middle of it all with the total number lost since the beginning of the war. It's a great display and I often see people stop their cars to get out and take pictures.

or even better. fly your flags upside down. isn't that the international sign of distress?
