You better be typing this from a computer in Iraq while you are on break. You're the one who is so behind it, I thought you would be over there "defending our freedom", or getting "those who attacked us on 9/11" or searching for weapons of mass destruction. I can't remember which one you signed up for that turned out totally bogus.
  • Im just stirring the pot. This was just aimed at a couple of people. For the record, I don't support the war, but I also don't support retreat or surrender. If your into surrender, move to France. They have a whole country of surrender monkeys over there.

because saying that is not offensive at all........................... read some ww1 and ww2 history books and find out why they surrendered, then talk about it.

Nice to see that you get your slogans from the NY Post...

But as far as France goes, they really bailed us out in the revolutionary war...

By "rip on america" do you really mean not agree with your flag waving beliefs? There is a big difference.

Agreed. And if it wasn't for American the French would all be speaking German now.

Quite a bit actually. But Im not here to educate; though someone despartely needs to. Im here to discuss and debate. Even with surrender monkeys...

I can pretty much be assured that all of the American born America bashers on this board have barely if ever left our borders. If you had, you'd have a far greater appreciation for the country that allows you to so openly bash it without fear of being beaten, imprisoned or killed. It is possible to be both patriotic, which I define as being loyal to your community, and be critical of this country's current policies. We live in a great country. The greatest on earth IMHO. Instead of just focusing on the follies of our current president, which is just picking on an easy target, try some actual debate and discussion. Let's try a thread where we actually talk about some of the great things this country has done and still does. We are mostly American here. We have the capacity to make change. But it won't happen through blind hatred and ignorance of the past which seems so pervasive on this board...

I'm sorry, you still didn't answer the question, by "blind hatred and ignorance" and people who "rip on america" do you mean people who don't agree with you?

You know, it's possible to travel very widely and still not visit a country where people are beaten, imprisoned or killed for criticizing the government. People in much of the world roll their eyes and laugh when Americans talk as though we're the only country on the planet where citizens are free to speak their minds.

Which countries have you visited that so severly curtail speech rights?

Vietnam, Cambodia, China, Cuba, among others. I never stated we are the only country with Free Speech. I was simply pointing out that bashing America is just too easy these days. It's easy for people to just bash than actually debate, which is a right given to us by our own Constitution. I never stated that we have the best civil rights record in the world. Clearly we do not and obviously we aren't the only country in the world who uphold free speech. But the right to free speech means just that; freedom to express views that may not be those of the government or the majority. Interestingly the people on this board who spend the most time on here bashing America are the same ones looking to ban people from this board for expressing a different opinion. I find that somewhat ironic....

If you want to know my view of the world ask me. Don't pretend to know.
  • ....... which is a right given to us by our own Constitution. ....

Just to nit pick. The constitution does not give us the right to free speach. It keeps the government from taking a that right away.

Wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong!!!!!!!!!! Our constitution does not give us rights! The constitution sets LIMITS on the rights of government. Any and every right not specifically granted to the government resides with the people.

Sorry, this is a pet peeve of mine. It's a common mistake, I see it all the time, but I think it's an important distinction. We need to be very clear that the government gets it's rights from us, not the other way around.

No what we have now is segregated free speech, whereby people are being ignored based on an ill perceived division of political and religious viewpoints. A division that divides the mindset of the people of this country which has allowed for the dilution of the Constitution. Here we are in enaged in a purge of another country while the people who we looked up to guide America are on trial in the nation's capital. At least the people in the countries you mentioned know how they stand with their governmental leaders. We in America, well are now getting a taste of what it's like.
SIN EATERS--We take the moral excrement we find in this equation and we bury it down deep inside of us so that the rest of our case can stay pure. That is the job. We are morally indefensible and absolutely necessary.

amen.the constitution is a paper that recognizes our "god given rights" not permitting them.
