I cant imagine this guy not running. So far the Republicans have no standard bearer in the running. My guess is they are saving their heavy hitter for last and they are still jockeying for who their boy is gonna be. It looks like McCain got in bed with George w sufficiently to possibly get the right to support him. Rumor is Jeb Bush may hit the ticket. Anyone?

Be a very bad idea for the GOP to let another Bush anywhere near the ticket.

McCain will definately run. I think he's gotten to close to Bush to win. He's on board with the whole troop ramp and mwould probably prefer to send more than the 21000 troops. If Iraq stays the way it is or gets worse... count McCain out. If we start to see SIGNIFICANT improvement in Iraq then McCain would have a serious shot at the White House.
  • Im saying McCain is going to win if he does not run with Jeb. Dems cant win with what they got.

I agree somewhat. If the Dems. run Hillary I think they lose their ass. Obama is great guy and a likeable guy and an extremely smart man. Sadly I don't think he can win in a national election for many reasons.

Unfortunately for Jeb his brother fucked his chances at becoming President for 2008 and probably forever thus toppling the Bush family dynansty.

Guiliani is political poison. Once he realizes that he can't run on 9-11. He'll have a lot of fancy dancing to do about his marital infidelity. Almost got Clinton bounced out of office...won't do Guiliani any good. Even if our Presidents have the integrity of a wetnap, they have to at least appear to be people of integrity going in.

Guiliani without 9-11 was a adulterer. Sure, he cleaned up NYC, but in America, you're only as good as your last affair.

McCain has a shot, but he's going to have to step up and define himself apart from Bush, because Bush couldn't get elected to be a dog catcher at this point.

Why that american obsession with their politicians affairs and private relationships? Seriously. I'd rather have an adulterous fuck who has the right view on political issues, than a faithful man who is off his rocker or way beyond my political views. Why should it even matter? And in many countries, it doesn't.

I guess it's because you run person-politics over there. You dont vote for programs or parties, you vote for individuals that you have gotten the impression will vote so and so. Perhaps that's why it boils down to trust, and in extension of that, all candidates must be trustworthy, of which then marital fidelity is being an indicator.

It goes along with the cult of personality/celebrity obsession Dan. Of course there are a lot of people who do vote for ideals but since oh around the early 1960's how one looks on television has been a major factor in who wins the presidency.

Personally I tend to distrust anyone who desires to have the kind of power that the president holds.

I voted for McCain in the primaries in 2000 before he got submarined by Karl Rove in the SC primary. I really felt like McCain was a guy who had some integrity and was on the right track. Then he introduced the lousy McCain Feingold legislation and he towed the line and played nice with the people that screwed him over royally in 2000. He did so to the extent that it was obvious he's a well versed politician and he was staging himself for another run at the presidency. That's pretty much it for my support,

I could care less about any politicians personal life other than the lack of integrity it shows to completely cheat and screw over a person as close to you as a wife. If they are that much of an ass to their wife or husband imagine how they feel about the people they are supposed to represent?

I've pretty much made a consious decision to vote for ideals. I know what I care about and that's what I vote on. That's what it should be about anyway.

Although I am a registered democrat, I did read McCain's book and I think he is a decent person. I respect him for trying to get rid of some of the special interest money out of the campaigns that has been affecting the direction (right or wrong) of the country. No doubt he would have made or will make a much better President than Bush. However, I have lost some respect for McCain since he has been sucking up to Bush with continuing to support Bush's failed policies, especially after what the Bush campaign did to him during the 2000 primaries. McCain used to be known as a maverick politician but lately he has been just a typical kiss ass politician saying anything and doing whatever it takes to become President. This is something he really didn't do before so he has changed a bit.

Ya i agree. Mccain sold his soul for a presidential run in 2004.
He has even hired alot of the staffers that Bush used to smear him and his family in 2000.

He has done a 180 with the christian right like Falwell and Liberty Univ etc...pandering big time.

Not to mention - he will be 73 years old in 2008 and isn't exactly the picture of health.

I voted Lamar Alexander in 2000.

For the future though, you gearing up for that Ron Paul vote for President?
