So I am just getting into politics and I hear alot of the Dem's talking about single payer healthcare but I don't know what it is. I've done some reading but it seems like the more I read, the more I get confused. I think part of the problem is that I don't know enough about our current system.

What is single payer healthcare. Our taxes go to a large healthcare fun, which then gets doled out to doctors and pharmacies, skipping insurance companies? Is this close or am I way off? Is this similar to the system in Canada? If this does go through, does it mean that it will take months to get seen by a doctor?

The only candidate talking about single-payer health-care is Dennis Kucinich, so whether or not you think it's a good idea you can forget all about it, because it's not going to happen.

All I can suggest is that you keep reading. Edwards, Clinton and Obama have all released detailed health care plans. I like parts of some, parts or others, but I like all of them better than what we have now.

I've been kind of out of the loop the past week or so, but the last I'd heard none of the Republicans had released a comprehensive health care plan. If I'm wrong about that, I'm sure someone will set me straight soon enough.

    Thanks!
Just keep in mind, I was being lazy with those links. They're all from the candidates own sites. You'll want to read the links that give more details, and also read some reputable sources that oppose these plans, to give you a more balanced perspective.
