"The Obama Craze: Count Me Out"

I just stumbled across this article, it's a few months old but I found it to be very straightforward and enlightening.
You should definitely take the time to read the whole thing.

"Once I started looking at the votes Obama actually cast, I began to hear his rhetoric differently. The principal conclusion I draw about “change” and Barack Obama is that Obama needs to change his voting habits and stop pandering to win votes. If he does this he might someday make a decent candidate who could earn my support. For now Obama has fallen into a dangerous pattern of capitulation that he cannot reconcile with his growing popularity as an agent of change.
I remain impressed by the enthusiasm generated by Obama’s style and skill as an orator. But I remain more loyal to my values, and I’m glad to say that I want no part in the Obama craze sweeping our country. "
It was written by Matt Gonzalez, who was President of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors and is Ralph Nader's running mate.

Matt Gonzalez is an incredibly bright man and researches his stuff thoroughly and knows what he's talking about. Nader made an excellent choice this time...this guy is a fighter and a wonderful communicator who simply asks people to think about their choice and look further into their record so they know all about their candidate of choice and that they are okay with all the things he/she has did/supported.

Except for the fact that all of the info in it is factual and based on Obama's record.
yeah, can't weasel around that, sorry.

The article wasn't about supporting Gonzalez (although I'm sure the President of the Board of Supervisors in a major city has plenty of responsibility). The article in fact, had absolutely nothing to do with Gonzalez, so I doubt you even read it.
The article, in a straight forward manner, highlighted a number of instances in which Barack Obama's actions have contradicted his words.
I read it...thank you very much...
and while the article may not have been about "supporting" Gonzo, the fact he wrote the piece + the fact he is now running for vice-president = opening a discussion pertaining to the author....
He looks pretty good compared to Obama. And what has Obama done, now that you mention it?

Exactly. Don't expect much convo on that, though.

he contradicted himself....as per Gonzo...;)
Here's a bit more...

Nah, you tell me...since you like him so

tell you what...?
what Obama the great has done in his career? Since Gonzalez is seems so inexperienced to you...

He's run a pretty strong Campaign for President for the United States...
I think that's something...
What's strong about it besides the bank account?

nothing...
at least, that's what I'm being told...
honestly, I could tell you this guy cured AIDS, Cancer, and Hiccups...and it wouldn't change your mind...
yup, that too...
hopefully, fella's like Gonzo will keep us out of the zoo...
Why do you say that? You haven't told me anything he's done but then turn around and act like I've shut out all the great things he's done to the point of rejecting hypotheticals where he would have saved millions of lives. That makes no sense. There is no basis for your remark. Everything that I have complained about with Obama has had reasoning and is supported by facts not just some stubborn opinion that won't budge despite the wonderful things Obama has done to the contrary. If you're going to paint me as something, at least be accurate.

I love how people use the insult "sheep" for people who support someone they don't like. Why aren't supporters of Nader or Paul or whoever ever considered sheep?

wait a minute...are you telling me you would consider voting for Obama...?
as for his record, I don't have it memorized...as I've stated before, I like the guy, I like that he can speak, I agree with most of what he has to say during debates and speeches he makes...I like the energy he brings...
to me, he makes sense...
I know he did not support this war from the onset, I do know he supports Choice, I know he been called the "most liberal" senator...also he supported the Native Hawaiian Government Reorganization Act...and he was part of the Coburn-Obama Bill...
No but that is based on his record not just because I'm being hardheaded as you alluded to with your comment that he could have cured AIDS etc...If those things were part of his record, it would, indeed, make a difference. I haven't seen Obama produce any accomplishments as of yet that would cause me to overlook the things in his record that cause me to dislike him.
He has supported the war since it's onset, however. Liberal senators vote to reenact the Patriot Act, to confirm Condi Rice, to not cap credit card rates, supports and is heavily funded by the nuclear power industry, has lobbyists from Big Pharm work on his campaign(and I'm just skimming the surface here)...is there any such thing as a truly liberal senator, then? Seriously? This is the tops?? You guys can have it but I want no part in supporting what I view as part of the problem. He makes no sense to me and I've clearly stated why. I know we could do better.

I hear you loud and clear...
Patiot act is not good...
Condi - don't care much about that one, seriously, bush would have found someone as bad, if not worse...
Credit Card Rates- I don't carry a balance, so this is a non-issue...and those who do carry a large balance, shouldn't....
Nuclear Power- I'm indifferent...
Big Pharm- not a good thing...
As you know, there is no perfect person or candidate...
Because we are going against societal norms, I would guess.
I don't think people are sheep for going with society's take on things in every instance, though. I only view people as sheep who jump on bandwagons without knowing why or when it seems their choice contradicts their previous stances.
Some Nader and Paul fans fall in those lines, too. Like people who support Nader because it's a lefty type thing to do but know nothing about Nader's history. And Paul supporters who are very liberal but wanted to jump on the "Ron Paul Revolution" despite how his views being very contradictory to many 'usual' liberal stances and while they ignored candidates like Kucinich who matched up to their own views much better.

I know I've said these things before. I'm just showing that your point of me being stubborn is baseless and arrogant because I have laid out numerous reasons why I, myself, don't like Obama as a candidate and it's unfair to act as if he actually deserves my support and I'm just closing my mind to it...which is pretty much what you alluded to.
So just support her anyways? Okay then.
I don't care for predatory lenders who feed off the poor or those who make it easier for them and I don't have a balance, either.
This is surprising to me, everytime people overlook his connections with Excelon who is Obama's biggest contributor. I guess these things are easy to ignore as long as it's not affecting you.

Some are just more perfect than others. I never have claimed any candidate to be perfect so why this line is always brought up to excuse Obama's shortcomings is beyond me.

Condi Rice was approved by the Senate 83 -12
The Patriot Act has some good points, but the negative outway them, but the name alone is a problem. It's a reelection nightmare for those that vote against it, and are targeted by Republicans. Which goes to one of the fundamental problems with politicians, reelection is more important than always voting for what is right and standing up and fighting.
not to cap credit card rates - in the 2005 vote to cap at 30% corporate control showed it's might, and some others voted against it cause it wasn't being capped low enough.
How has Obama supported the war? sorry the budgeting votes don't tell that story. You fund the military when at war period. If you want to say he hasn't lead any attempt to end it, that's fine, but it also means you are clueless about the situation. I may have a different opinion on what to do now in Iraq, but walking away isn't an option. We broke it, so we have a moral responsibility, and I think we can achieve enough in Iraq in the first year after Bush (fyab) to leave. It's going to hurt our country more economically, but maybe our citizens will get off there asses and take their responsibilities as a citizen more serious in the future. Not saying stay in Iraq to make this happen, or that anyone will get off their ass either.
anyway, you're against Obama, I'm confident he will do a far better job as President than anyone else running. When it's Barak vs McCain, the last 7 years will squash McCains chances. My opinion, Nadar will not see 3%, and that's a generous estimate IMO. I'd love to see Nadar as a Senator, and for more congressional seats to go those that want change from our current facist system. It all starts with the power of the people.

So Obama must follow other's bad choices? Tell me again how he's a leader and stands up for what is right?
It's not a reelection nightmare...the people oppose it, too. Quit echoing corporate media sound bytes. It makes no sense to worry about reelction for opposing something the voters also oppose. That is nonsense could only be cooked up by Fox or CNN.
And yes, our elected officials should stand up against what they view as wrong...it's their job for christ's sake! An Obama has been quick to say how wrong the Patriot Act is on the campaign trail...his votes should reflect his words. If we don't expect our elected officials to stand up for what's right and what they believe in but instead excuse them for all having 'political ambitions' and view gaining power as more important than doing what's best for us, the people....is it any fucking wonder we are in such a mess. Leadership...my ass. Looks more like he's well versed in taking cues to me.
so better not capped at all?...riiight.
Budgeting votes absolutely tell the story!! I've discussed this with you in depth before. You don't have to vote to fund the war (that's why a vote takes place, duh), especially if you're saying how much you're against it. Once it, this makes no sense and comes off like talking points out of a think tank's 'How To Get Around the Facts' Manual. I'm not clueless to the situation...perhaps you are. I'm just not buying this bullshit they are so eager to sell. And we aren't fixing shit...only creating more chaos and instability.
He's seeing 6% in polls now with only being in the race a month and a half and without the aid of publicity tours and corporate mega bucks to plaster his face everywhere. I'd love to see Nader as president.
