Politics: Where to Start?

I recently became of voting age and would love to participate in the Democratic Process but feel that I know too little of what is going on to choose a side.
I have been trying to do some reading but it seems that every time I read a biased article, I am swayed to that side. Take for example the war, I am just generalizing but it seems like the Dems say "The Republicans are killing innocent American's and Iraqis for no reason" and the Republicans say "We are doing to it protect America, we had secret intelligence that we can't reveal etc."
I can't figure out who to believe. War is wrong, war for a reason is not. So is there a reason?
The same thing goes with all the candidates in the upcoming election. Everyone says what the people want to hear but how do you know if they will uphold those promises?
It seems like there is just so many different voices out there, it is hard to decide who will be best for this country.
So I am asking you for suggestions on reading materials that would enlighten me. Stories about how you choose your political affiliation would also be helpful.

Just read a lot. Every time you can, even if it's 5 minutes for a little article while waiting your doctor. Eventually a lot of reading from many different sources leads you to recognise bs when you see it.
Learn as much as you can about all the candidates, even thrid party candidates. Also you don't have to pick a side. Don't base your decision on what party the person represents but on the person themselves.
