Here is an excerpt:
"The convergence is in large measure a result of McCain's record of defying the GOP party line. But Obama too has been tacking to the center lately on a number of fronts, including trade, government wiretapping policy and the death penalty.

"It debunks the common view that Obama is the most liberal Democratic senator," Isaacs said. "And it debunks the view that McCain is really the third Bush term.""

It debunks nothing. This is politics 101. Its textbook. Those on the left, who hope to win, always, in a general election, gravitate a little right towards the center while those on the right gravitate somewhat to the left towards the center. Thats where the vast majority of voters are. You won't win without playing the game. Part of making an informed decision HAS to be a basic knowledge of the game works. Its like watching a baseball game, seeing that its tied in the bottom of the eighth, one out, runners on first and second and the pitcher due up. Anyone with any knowledge of the game knows a pinch hitter is on the way. Its textbook.

Both parties are to the right of what the american people poll as wanting.....this has been written about and discussed, Roland posted a good Chomsky piece on it.

The 2 major parties do as little for the people as they can get by with and to be frank...you guys seem to be okay with letting them do just about anything they want.

There is no breaking point, apparently.

  • The article more proves that McCain is not the big bad Republican he has been made out to be in the media.

Remember in 2000 he was considered practically a democrat. I think he has sold out his previous ideals more so then Obama by campaigning under the fear mongering principles of the Bush Administration.

if the McCain from 2000 ended up President I would not have a huge problem with it.

First of all, polls are pretty much crap. Easily manipulated and largely unscientific. For nearly any poll you can pull out of your ear, someone else can pull another one from theirs that refutes it. The fact that the majority of Americans are fairly centrist is common knowledge. Secondly, to say that Obama is anywhere right of center is absurdist political ranting. i like Chomsky too, but any suggestion that Obama is "to the right of most Americans" is slanted and driven by agenda. I don't care WHO or what poll suggests it. i've never been accused of being anything but a lefty, and i don't consider Obama to be all that far to the right of me.

I love how people justify Obama supporting terrible policies by saying "that's what he has to do to win"...
I guess he has to vote in favor of FISA, support Condolezza Rice as sect of state, vote for PATRIOT ACT, support death penalty, free trade, and so on, just to "get some votes"....

what kind of bullshit is that?!
  • After Obama is elected I can't wait for the mass indifference to kick in....

Progress is not made by everyone joining some new fad,
and reveling in it's loyalty. It's made by forming coalitions
over specific principles, goals, and policies.
