Newt Gingrich will be the next President of the United States. Get a good look at what you'll be getting:

What are our thoughts on Newt? I imagine most of you hate his guts for one reason or another.

I especially like his ideas on better educational standards in math and science. The national security benefits, as well as the entrepeneurial advantages from increasing standards of math and science learning among our kids are numerous.

Newt also supports that most stabilizing force in American history: God in the public square. I know many of you hate the idea of allowing Christians to set up religious monuments because it amounts to "Government sponsorship of religion." Fortunately, that's not true at all and Newt, the PhD in history, can prove that's not true in his new book "Rediscovering God in America."

The guy writes books about the civil war for fun. I read them all. They were really good. He's one of the only Rennaissance men in America today. Other politicians are idiots - he's a statesman.
All I know is that to see, and not to speak, would be the great betrayal.

This is a classic fallacy that conservatives use to bash those of us at the center or just slightly left of.

We don't oppose christian monuments - The Chrystal Cathedral, for instance - a religious monument paid for by private funds - is ok (although overdone and an awful use of money that could have gone to what it means to be a true christian: helping fellow man).

What we oppose is the government paying for or sponsoring christian monuments. That is not the government's place. There are better uses of tax money than a chiseled copy of the 10 commandments hanging from the courthouse steps.

I don't mind Newt - but he will never be president.
  • If your a conservative what are your other presidental alternatives at this point? McCain and Guiliani? I would be interested if Newt ran. Have you heard anything about his plans to run?

Newt has too much baggage to get elected nationally, but so far seeing him on talk shows the last month or two he has been pretty pleasant on some issues, I think the republicans have almost no chance at the white house in 08.

the only thing most Americans know about Hillary Clinton are who her husband is, that he got blown not by her and is still with him, and for many the rest is what Carl Rove wants them to believe she is.

Obama is unknown, and we'll see where he is after he is under scrutiny, and actually has to take stands on a wide range of issues.

John Edwards announced last week and got drowned out by Saddam's hanging and President Ford passing, but I hope he will have a big part in who the next Democrat presidential nomination is, whether it's him or his voice is heard and helps shape the way issues are talked about, with substance and not just marketed soundbites.

The ACLU opposes privately funded monuments on public land, as well.

If none of the others have a sizable lead by next fall, he says he will probably run.

I'm cool with it if the private parties funding it pay properly for land usage.

The ACLU is wrong on a lot of things...

Then we can agree: I don't think the government should be paying for religious monuments. But, if private groups wish to put up a monument, that's perfectly okay by me.

I'd prefer not to see land I'm paying for cluttered up with a bunch of nonsense.

  • Can't we just stay away from religion in public areas? Imagine the outcry if Muslims wanted to put a monument in a courthouse or anywhere?

I get enough evangelizing by the Mormons, Johvas and crazy preacher men standing on street corners yelling at everyone. I really don't want to see monuments everywhere

    What's wrong with free speech?

you're cool with me paying for a large statue of buddha and a sacred display of the koran in your public park then too? if it means so much to you, why dont you build it on your own land or in front of your church? dont want it cluttering up your front lawn and are too scared to stand by your beliefs?

isnt newt the guy that spent millions of taxpayer dollars investigating president clinton for what the horrrible and morally repugnant act of getting a hummer from someone not his wife? and didnt he fund that investigation while getting blown by his own mistress (NOT his wife)?

if newt gets elected and paves the way for allowing "free speech" statues (since when are statues speech?), im going to build a gigantic, full color statue of newt with his mistress's lips wrapped around his pathetic little pecker. we'll see how he likes his free speech then. we'll also get to see the monkey try to explain why it's wrong for bill clinton to cheat on his wife but ok when newt does it. newt's a hypocrite and has no business running this country.

I don't stand by what Newt did, but still, he didn't lie about it. Clinton did.

The libs could never really understand what a "lie" was.

    lying
adj : given to lying; "a lying witness"; "a mendacious child"
    [syn: lying, mendacious]
n : the deliberate act of deviating from the truth [syn: prevarication,
    fabrication]

    There ya go.

So you're fine with a plaque of the ten commandments? Good.

ill take a liar over a hypocrtice. clinton lied to keep his private life private. newt spent years and millions of my dollars trying to crucify someone for doing something he did himself. at least clinton was never publicy campaigning about morality and how no one should have sex with anyone but their wife ever. newt was. apparently, it was the rest of the country that needed those rules, newt felt he was above them.

im not fine with a 10 commandments plaque. im just warning you that if it's so important to you, you better also be willing to allow public koran displays, menorahs, buddhas, flying spaghetti monsters, aliens from the church of scientology, and my graphic depiction of newt's sex life. is it worth it? will that help unify our country or further divide and confuse it?

I guarantee you the Christian statue would receive the most funding seeing as how the vast majority of America is Christian.

It'd definitely bigger than the flying spaghetti monster ones. Additionally, its size would point out the impotence (both physically and morally) of liberals.

so it IS about showing the other religions who's boss? it's not about paying tribute to god, it's about making sure the other religions keep quiet and know thei place and what thin ice they're on here in our christian nation.

your statue wouldn't show the liberals anything. id be blowing them up as fast as you could erect them (physically and metaphorically).

I have a good friend who is a sculpter, he works in marble, stone, and even metals. I'm going to ask him if he can create a 15 ft. tall statue of the flying spaghetti monster I will personally fund the project. Once completed I want to donate it to some small bible belt town out in the mid-west so they can place it right in the center of town. Let's see how open to that idea they would be?

I'm sure my friend would gladly donate his time, the money would only be needed for materials, seeing that he is a fellow Pastafarian and all.
