Conservative Realignment

I've been reading some conservative blogs and the general sense I've been getting lately is that the conservative movement in America is incredibly discontented. The choices for president are pathetic. Most agree on that.

But, one of the most notable issues I've discovered is the intense animosity toward Ron Paul. Though he is an exceptional conservative who has never voted to raise taxes, never voted for gun control, and consistently voted pro-life, conservatives on Free Republic demonize him for his views on the war.

They frequently make up claims about him that are patently false, going so far as to claim he is pro-choice.

I fear that some would even vote for Giuliani before Paul.

Ron Paul might be a 'wimp,' but the presidency needs a wimp. The presidency needs a guy who doesn't want to implement a new program that will "help" us like No Child Left Behind or the Clinton-era tax policy (and resulting surplus).

Basically, the Old Right conservatism supported by Ron Paul is nowhere to be found now and his own party hates him. 50 years ago he would've been the presidential nominee without question.
All I know is that to see, and not to speak, would be the great betrayal.

I'm sure it's because Ron Paul isn't your typical Conservative. And the others are jealous of him!

The Republican party is really not conservative except for the talking points. The Democratic party isnt liberal either. Everyone needs to wakeup and see the game being played for power. And no, I have no solution aside from a third party candidate (which Ron Paul really should be since his views are so different from the rest of the Republican candidates)-- which has no chance in today's rigged party system. Sigh.

The thing that conservatives really dislike about their candidates is that there doesn't seem to be one that can win.

otherwise.. it really doesn't matter with them. After all, they were happy with George Bush twice..

I'm sure it doesn't have anything to do with the fact that RP's nuttier than a fruitcake.

If, as I suspect, it comes down to Giuliani and Hillary, you can bet your ass somebody's gonna step up as a third-party candidate.

    Giuliani could definitely win.

and that 3rd party candidate (assuming they are conservative) could really make life terrible for the other 2.
