So many times throughout my life and especially these last weeks I get this feeling that I want to meaningful to the world.
I know I already am in my own way, especially with being a teacher....BUT...I always feel like I can and should do more.
I don't want to be in the spotlights and I dislike politics, but there should be something I can do to make this world a better place. I have so many ideas in my head, but not the time and (for now) the opportunity to make them work.
I guess I have to finish my study first and than take some time to think about it...I'll get back to you...

If anybody feels like joining me in a creative process...let me know. My talents are in the area of fine arts, education / communication and cultural anthropology. My goal is to create a positive energy and help people to listen and understand eachother!

*free hug*

pffff....had to get that out of my system...thanks for providing me a platform 10C!

Come up with bumper sticker slogans that send a positive message. My bumper has a sticker that says, "Please Dont' Breed or Buy While Shelter Pets Die". Whoever came up with that sticker is surely making a difference in the world. You could do the same with t-shirts, hats, ...etc. How about joining the peace corps or greenpeace?

Ya know, I'm not in the public eye to an extent those guys are but I think I might ask myself what the hell I'm doing before wearing that, and to see these two nerds dressed like that is sincerely sad, hillarious, ridiculous and scary as hell, all at the same time.

The late night shows are gonna have a field day with this. Unless it's old news.

Yeah, this is just one of many bad dress days Bush has had to endure. I remember Clinton looked like a goof many times as well. My guess is these smaller countries do this on purpose as a joke on the most powerful leader in the world !

Find a charity you agree with and volunteer half a day a week/a day a month/whatever time you have. Might be easier than setting up your own thing, when you're already short on time ;)

Nice...not my thing though bumperstickers but they sure can make you laugh! And thats a good thing.
I know that little things can make a big difference. I try to be very social when I am on the road as well and that really feels good!

Peace corps or greenpeace is not exactly. What mean is doing something to help people in general understand eachother better...lessen the tension between groups and "cultures".
I am thinking along the lines of setting up a project / website / documentary...
Maybe creating a website on which people from all kinds of different cultures put their hopes and dreams, wishes.
Something like letting balloons go up with a note and hoping somebody will find it and replies.... always loved to that as a kid....

As I said, I am still working it out and these are just "mind-bubbles"...

    Hope for peace everywhere.

That's just it I do not simply want to "Hope" for peace I want to DO something about it.
hmm, its just that I can get frustrated about all the cr*p going on and maybe feel the weight of the world on my shoulders a bit too much. If this sounds too depressed, thats not how I feel at all. I am quiet happy in my own way, but just get a bit frustrated with the worldy stuff sometimes...

Maybe if we try really hard we can squeeze the positive energy out of us all and rub it off on the world ;)

Don't know where you live, but I'm sure, like everywhere, there is problem with crime, youth offenders, etc.

If you need to keep your day job because of money, do some voluntary work, working with troubled youngsters, etc. That's a start to world peace..

Or, if only to make the world a better place, lots of charities and organisations need help - the homeless, the aged, etc.

Give a bit of your time and your love.... As Riot Rain said, it is probably easier to start that way than to go down the road of starting something totally new.

Like others have said, how about voluteering? It's a great start, or maybe participating in fundraisers in your area, there's always so many going on, and many have the "run/walks" for a good cause. I always feel better when I participate in a cause I believe in. What specific issues are you passionate about?

Thank you guys for all your advice!!!! *hug*

I understand what you are trying to say to me: if you want a good world, start working on yourself.
When I wrote my message I was not really thinking of the local things I could do, because I am already doing that; as a teacher I always try to help out my students in a personal way and try to teach them why you just cannot say or do certain things. I believe I am doing a good job there. I also help out my Peruvian friend's family. She has just given birth to a beautiful baby boy whose godmother I have become and I will support them in any way I can.
I donate money to charities (3) etcetera.........

What I am trying to say is that I was fed up with the world situation as a whole, the tension between groups/ societies/ religions and that I wished I could do something about that. It kind of has become my goal in live, next to being happy in a general sense.
The funny thing is that I had a course yesterday in which we discussed how goal and the road to it are related. That you should never forget about the road and enjoy it while your still on it...but that you also need a goal to know where you are heading. This is a fine balance. And to be honest I am tipping over to the goal side too much and should concentrate more at the road and its surroundings.
Pfff, this sounds philosophical, sorry ;)

OK, I want to stop talking about myself. So...the question is: what is it that YOU do about it...or would like to do...

    Again thanks!

I think science does a great job of bringing understanding. Unfortunately 50% of Americans don't believe in science.
I necessarily have the passion for writing this, and you have the passion for condemning me; both of us are equally fools, equally the toys of destiny. Your nature is to do harm, mine is to love truth, and to make it public in spite of you. - Voltaire

I agree! I learned a lot from studying cultural anthropology...I would recommend that study too anyone who either has a thick head or wants to understand the way the world works a bit better.

I volunteer for Oxfam when and where I can :)

I have also done an introductory sign language course which was great. Looking forward to doing a level 1 course.

I try to buy Fair Trade products instead of regular products, especially coffee, tea, cotton and chocolate!

I am educating myself in history and politics as I think the only way to change anything is to understand the what, why and how of the current situation.

i think a lot of us feel this way, i know i have for some time now. you know, i go to work, help the kids with the homework, make dinner, call my mom and at the end of the day i think "damn! i wanted to help change the world today!" i don't have the funds to make a dent in any charity. there must be something us "little blue collars" can do.

I exactly know what you mean! Of course we help out the world by helping out people around us and cleaning up nature after ourselves. The little things are very very significant as well....!
Hmm, I am thinking of this movie...forgot the name sorry. Where a little kid figures out that if everybody helped three people in his surroundings a network can be created all over the world in no time. GREAT idea!

I am planning to apply to be a 'big sister' in the near future. Since the company I work for seems to be imploding, I am currently putting out my feelers to get another job (anyone need someone for marketing/pr? ;)), so it will have to wait for a bit though. They don't accept applications if there's a change in your life coming up which I think is a good thing. Until recently, I always spent part of my advertising budget for charity, but that's not possible anymore, so the only thing I can do right now is to send giveaways we get that are suitable to kid's charities and do the usual stuff like supporting the SOS children's villages or the red cross in my private life.

Has anyone here experience with being a big brother/sister and has some tips?
