Holy shit. How much did it cost you?
And "It was an act of god" could be applied to just about everything couldn't it? Shitty excuse.
Could you tell them that you just dont believe in God? What do they tell the other religions??
No, sorry Bin Laden, it was Allah....
This sucks for you. :( Sorry.
Peace

sucks about your tv man, insurance companies are a bitch.
No, we were actually out-of-town in Chicago, caught EV on friday night at the Auditorium theater and when we got back Sunday the TV wouldn't come on.
I spent 6 hours Sunday night reading the instruction manual and moving cables....everything but it wouldn't come on...
Then I talked to my dad and he said we had a balls out electrical storm Friday night and lightning got several computers at the local library (made big news here).....
then I realized my AC wasn't working right either and all that was a thrown breaker.
But I'm taking it back to Sears tomorrow and not saying shit about lightning, hopefully they'll fix it or replace it.
It was almost $4000.
The cable box doesn't work either but that's on the cable company they said they would get me one out tomorrow.
Cheating ass Patriots!!!
however I do find humor in almost everything
Hope it works out, let us know...
When my sis comes over she says to me it's time to invest in a new HGTV or whatever they'll called. I've seen hers and I must say the picture is awesome but I'll stick to my fat bottom 30 inch till it dies. It's almost there it takes 5 minutes to come on.
I don't watch much televison so I'm in no hurry, I tell her if you run into a great deal call me.
Insurance companies are a rip off for sure find a way to get your money back. They suck I had a knee operation several yrs back $5500 and health refused to cover, I refused to pay 5years later they settled for $1500 and the company was Mege Health Insurance or some shit those rip off bastards.
Get ALL that you can from em man.
Peace

call them up.
$4000? That's like...2 Afghans!
think of it this way... he could have bought an afghan, had it struck by lightning, and got a new one for the cost of his tv. but they're not much fun to watch. you'd have to get subtitles on everything and the women would never show any skin... fuck that!
Secondly, who owns a $4k TV without making darn sure their insurance will cover it, and more importantly, that they have the best surge protector, breaker system, etc. that money can buy?

Right 'round the corner could be bigger than ourselves.
MY Homeowners covers contents of my home against:
Fire
Theft
Rain Damage/Storm Damage
No coverage for:
Earthquake
Flood
Lightning*
* electronics specific ie powersurges...
if lightning caused a fire it would be covered.
Yes I had a surge bar.... it didn't work apparently and what's strange is, my computer and printer etc. are not on a surge protector and they are just fine.
They knew you had to get on AMT and talk about your disgust with the insurance company to the PJ fans so they made sure to protect themselves.
Peace have a blessed day

Those cheap power bars you buy at Wal-Mart aren't surge protectors. If I had a TV worth that much, I'd find something that's actually rated to protect the TV.

That's a good point... I can't remember where I bought it but it's supposed to be a surge protector not just a power strip...I originally had the surge protector on my old Gateway which I purchased in 1995... My brother-in-law tells me some surge protectors offer insurance with their product but I'm sure this particular 1995 surge protector would be hard to try to make a claim on since I basically have no proof when and where it came from...
My wife just informed me this morning that lightning also got the bizhub at the local high school where she works....
AND insurance won't cover it either because they say lightning is considered an act of god...
I'm not making this shit up...promise
Definitely invest in a good surge protector. Last year I purchase a brand new suped up Mac and the first thing I did was go to best buy and by the best surge protector I could get my hands on. And I totally believe you about the insurance company. A few years ago we had a really bad storm and a tree fell on my truck. It wasn't a big tree but it left a huge dent on the roof. My insurance company wouldn't cover it because "It was an act of God". The truck was a lease so when I returned it the dealership wanted to charge me for the dent but I told them that I wasn't responsible because it was an act of God. I guess that excuse only works for insurance companies because I ended up paying close to $700.00 for the dent.
I'm glad someone else has heard of this Act of God excuse...
I'm not glad the tree fell on your truck but I've never heard of this excuse from insurance companies.
I was thinking this was some kind of hoodoo Jedi mind trick being pulled on me.. . I'm picturing them laughing and high fiving in their little insurance cubicle world after they get off the phone with me....
I thought the same when it happened to me. I actually started laughing because I though the insurance rep was joking. Then when I didn't hear him laugh I asked him if he was serious. He obviously was and then it wasn't funny anymore. It is such a bullshit excuse because as you said anything can be defined as an act of God.
Thanks.....
This made me really laugh out loud and not just the pretend LOL...
It's funny and catches you off guard... I asked my wife if that's a "legal" restriction and wondered if anyone has ever challenged it in court...
She tells me not to start another one of my fruitless crusades... Ho Hum
Where I live, flooding is a problem (as are tornados)... The river can rise and destroy your home and we have zero coverage but a tornado comes thru and destroys it...no problem we're covered....doesn't make sense to me
Exactly, rain that can cause a flood can be considered an AOG or just about anything else. Then you can get into whose God, I don't believe in God and ALL the other bullshit excuses.
My lady in South FL has a $800,000 home bought and paid for and doesn't have insurance on the house. I told her you live in the state that rules when it comes to lightening and you have no insurance. She said after 2 hurricanes and roof damages both times, the insurance company refused to cover she said to hell with them and goes without. That cost her $55k to repair, they're the slickest bunch of crooks short of carsaleman.
That'll be a good thread Who are the crookedest people on the planet?
Peace

Flood insurance is the fucking worse. I former co-worker of mine had his house flooded but since his town was not designated as a flood zone by FEMA he wasn't covered. His entire basement was damaged along with the carpets and hard wood floors on his first floor. We are talking well north of $20,000 in damages to his home. Every single penny had to come out of his pocket.
2) Lighting is strange and unpredictable once it hits your grid. It may miss some outlets and hit others.
3) Homeowner insurance do not want to cover your tv because it would cost them money. There is a usually a deductable. I say for 4000 grand, use it. Look at your policy to see if it explicitly says ACT OF GOD.
4) A good manufacture will replace the item within warrenty. Just dont mention lighting to them. I had a hitachi projector that got hit on a "lighting proof" protector that was 80 bucks. It was no match for it. Im just glad it didnt start a fire.
It was completely covered under 90day warranty.
I asked her why it wouldn't work and she told me it got hit by lightning.
She did manage to clip me for a new surge protector and an extended lifetime service contract almost $200 in all.
I asked her about the insurance angle we have been discussing and she told me that she didn't know of any insurance co. that would cover lightning strikes on electronics without an extra surcharge that would be much higher in the long run than purchasing service contracts on your electronics.
Well essentially that sold me, maybe it was just a pitch, I dunno but I'm also getting an upgrade on the TV because the one I just bought has already been discontinued so I'm getting version 2.
Sears rules!!!
