Foo Fighters object to McCain using their song

I came across this article on spinner.com. It seems the McCain camp has been playing My Hero without permission. The following is the Foo Fighters' (I'm assuming Dave Grohl's words) response regarding the use of the song:

"This isn't the first time the McCain campaign has used a song without making any attempt to get approval or permission from the artist. It's frustrating and infuriating that someone who claims to speak for the American people would repeatedly show such little respect for creativity and intellectual property. The saddest thing about this is that 'My Hero' was written as a celebration of the common man and his extraordinary potential. To have it appropriated without our knowledge and used in a manner that perverts the original sentiment of the lyric just tarnishes the song..."

I like Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighters. I really enjoy that his main objection seems to be that he feels McCain is the antithesis of what the song is about.

Here's the link, though the majority of the article is the quote above

    Good for Dave!

  • With the money these politicians steal, I'd sue like no tomorrow.
Progress is not made by everyone joining some new fad,
and reveling in it's loyalty. It's made by forming coalitions
over specific principles, goals, and policies.

  • Not surprisingly, the only artist that doesn't mind McCain using his music is Hank Williams Jr.

I suggest that the McCain campaign use a different Foo song. Perhaps "Long Road to Ruin"?

Yes, I would think Dave might be cool with that choice.
  • Wasn't "In Your Honor" titled after Dave went out on the road with John Kerry?

If I was Beck... I'd go on the T.V. and say, "You have my permission to use my song, 'Loser'... if you want to. I mean, since no one else lets you user their songs".

How about Mick Jagger announcing that he isn't like those Liberal Lesbian queers in 'Heart' that got their strap-ons in a bunch when Sarah Palin used 'Barracuda' at her speaking engagements... and allow her to use their 1960s hit, 'Stupid Girl' at them instead?
    Palin '08!!!
