Autism Speaks

edited May 2007 in A Moving Train
The following web-link is for a video produced by the Autism Speaks organization. Every time the video is viewed a donation of 49 cents will be made to Autism Speaks. I work with a program that provides services for children in the autism spectrum, as well as other delays and disabilities, and this truly is a great cause. Please take a moment to view the video and share it with those you know. 1 in 150 children is diagnosed with autism. Please help bring attention and support to this worthy cause.

Thank you

This was lovely. Thank you for posting it.

Where does it say $0.49 is donated? If I could find something saying that I'd probably pass it around...
Progress is not made by everyone joining some new fad,

I love the awareness videos. Of course it means nothing to someone who thinks consciousness manifests its self in the physical as it chooses. *cough*

People really need to wake up and see the neurodiversity all around them and realize that people don't choose to have a pervasive development disorder like autism.
I necessarily have the passion for writing this, and you have the passion for condemning me; both of us are equally fools, equally the toys of destiny. Your nature is to do harm, mine is to love truth, and to make it public in spite of you. - Voltaire

Do you even know what you're talking about here? This seems so *cough* nonsensical.

I know it's nonsensical. It's not my view, but rather the view of many newagers who denounce religion and invest their faith in an equally ridiculous concept.

    OK

This little video is a nice idea, but it doesn't have much substance. Maybe it might make people curious about autism, but it doesn't really give any impression of what it actually looks/sounds/feels like.

Yea, I erroneously made my post before even watching the video. I admit I was wrong. It's not as informative as I thought it would be.

  • If you would like more information on autism please visit the Autism Speaks website at:

    http://www.autismspeaks.org

The video isn't meant to answer questions but to raise awareness so that you may take the next step to find out more. I invite you to go to the Autism Speaks site and go to the "Learn the Signs" page. Once you've done that, watch the video again and see what you missed.

If you want the impression of what it looks/sounds/feels like then please watch the short film on the Autism Speaks website titled 'Autism Every Day'.

all or nothingman, I wasn't trying to criticize this, I have lived with it in my family so that's why it seemed superficial and unrepresentative of anything real. Sorry if you took it that way. :(

No problem but you raised a good point, which is why I included the information about the other video. This way if there are others that feel the same they can know that there is something that goes more in depth.

I appreciate any opinions that are being posted to this because it shows that people are not only viewing it and but taking something from it as well.

Also, thank you for sharing about your family when you didn't have to. I can only try to imagine the strength they have with the obstacles they have needed to overcome.

Thank you for posting this. I'm going to e-mail the link to my friends. We live in a community where the school district offers so many services that families who have children with autism move here to take advantage of them. We all know families who live with it and would appreciate this lovely, hopeful video.
