Where are we at?

I just saw a debate on tv on human rights. One of the debaters was asking the viewers to check out the original human rights (the 1948 ones, written for the UN). These rights were written as universal ones : rights that everyone has, all the time, everywhere.
This man was stating we are fast to condemn some regimes for their lack of human rights but we often fail to look at our own problems. After reading these rights (here, all 30 articles the preamble is also worth a read), I realized my country isn't exactly a champion of these rights as only a few are thoroughly enforced.
These are 1948 rights and, as stated in the preamble, are an ideal to try and reach but our achievements some 60 years later are ridiculous.
So where is your country at?

North of America in North America.
I necessarily have the passion for writing this, and you have the passion for condemning me; both of us are equally fools, equally the toys of destiny. Your nature is to do harm, mine is to love truth, and to make it public in spite of you. - Voltaire
