Extract :

"Tripoli, 26 July (AKI) - France and Libya have signed an accord to build a nuclear reactor for sea water desalinisation and clinched deals on military-industrial and research cooperation, as well as cultural, scientific and technical assistance. The two countries also signed a partnership agreement on health, illegal immigration, counter-terrorism.

The French anti-nuclear group Sortir du Nucleaire slammed the civilian nuclear energy deal, describing it as "irresponsible" and "unjustifiable bartering". The group accused Sarkozy of working to build up a "nuclear trust" with French companies Areva, Alstom and Bouygues.

"The nuclear deal will allow these companies to boost their business in Libya, especially by building nuclear power stations," it said.
"Sea water desalinisation is merely a subterfuge to attempt to justify nuclear energy," the group added."

note : Areva, Alstom and Bouygues are big big companies which are close to (but not exactly in) the militaro-industrial complex.

Do you think it's such a smart idea to give nuclear facilities to a dictator (this had already been done with sadam)? Even for civilian use?

Haha, does that mean Nuclear Sleep or Nuclear Rest? Heh, those french classes did come to SOME use.

Not a very badass title though.
All I know is that to see, and not to speak, would be the great betrayal.

I don't know, I always thought of nuclear power as something we shouldn't try to reproduce everywhere. I don't agree with selling arms, but I view this as even worse.

i'm not a proponent of nuclear power either but in the end it isn't about public well-being - it's about money ... we sell weapons to third world dictators knowing full well they'll be used against innocent people ... so, there really isn't any morality in the way these things develop ...

there are other ways of de-salinating water ... the article says the pact includes military deals as well ...

didn't you know... Libya's not a terrorist anymore.

Of course, it helps that they're sitting on a pretty healthy untapped oil reserve.

no more stupid than a country electing a leader who can't even pronounce nuclear.
