Ronald Reagan and Arnold Swartzenegger were entertainers. Does Bill O'Rilley think those two guys should have just shut the fuck up and act? What about his buddy, Dennis Miller?

I go to concerts to forget about things like politics. The last thing I want to hear is the band preaching to me about some politician whom I don't believe in. Save it.

Since O'Reilly is an entertainer himself, shouldn't he take his own advice and shut up? All he does is express his opinions for a living. Hypocrite.

What do you think? I hate O Reilly - he's a loudmouth bully. But I think he raises an interesting point.
The whole idea of this forum is based on a quote from Howard Zinn, "you can't be neutral on a moving train." -meaning, if you don't speak out, if you do nothing, you are actually supporting the status quo. So it is actually the exact opposite of what O'reilly says, artist have a responsibility to speak out. With so many things wrong with this country today it would be irresponsible for someone to have that platform celebrities have and not use it.

I like what Ed said at the Berkeley II show on the 8th....should we only allow those that have a selfish interest like corporate executives, wall street, the military industrial complex represent their views, or maybe someone that has traveled the world the last 17 years, traveled the country extensively, talks with people from all walks of life and cultural back ground just might have somewhat of a better perspective to speak from?

Saying Ed should be quiet, is the same as telling the average American to be quiet.

I know exactly what Bill O'Reilly needs to due, but I would get in trouble for stating it, lol

As long as people keep buying tickets for the show, I think the artist can use their constitutional right in any way they want.

Well, I'd hope they'd retain the right even if people stopped buying tickets for the show :p
... and the will to show I will always be better than before.

acutally ask of and challenge Ed to keep speaking out, as if he won't, but I basically said it would be a far worse place to live if he didn't continue to speak out. I also said I was doing my part also, not asking him to do something I'm not, he just has more people listening, lol

Oh... and Bill O'Rielly is a fascist douchebag.

    ds

Does anyone even know what a fascist is? That word gets thrown around so willy-nilly. I guess anyone who doesn't hold extreme leftist views is now a fascist.

I don't really like Bill O'Reilly but I don't understand why he's viewed as some sort of hard-right conservative. He definitely leans that way but he's also pretty amoral on a lot of issues. The people that criticize him should actual watch his show once in a while (not just the popular YouTube clips where says something "outrageous").

lol, just thinking when I read this, that the same is true with Reverand Wright in Chicago. He's viewed for a few minutes out of three serman's out of thousands, though Bill O pretty much put's his ass in his mouth daily whether through the radio or television.

as for facists, I think in most cases no a days, it's just thrown around for the negative aspect of it.

When Bill isn't on his own show he routinely gets bitch slapped by whoever he is debating with.

Edit: Well he does on his own show too, he just will yell louder.

O'Reilly criticizes Bruce for not coming onto his show to be accountable for his words and position.......yet the clip he played was from 60 minutes.....

sounds like Bruse WAS being accountable for his words....just not on HIS show.

People actually listen to this guy?

Bill doesn't allow those with an opposing view get their view across. He rips them instead of debating them. He's a bully, and needs his ass kicked, lol

He's got his own cable show. Like he's in a position to call out these guys for expressing their more educated opinions.

First, my post was in response to the quoted post that said that Eddie & Co. were more educated.

Second, Mr. Obama went to Harvard Law....He doesn't appear to be white and clueless.

Obviously I put a little more weight into a Harvard education than you do. Not to say that all people who didn't go to college are less informed, but I will take the political opinions of a Harvard grad a little more seriously than I would Eddie Vedder's.

With that said, I respect O'Reilly as an entertainer. He clearly is trying to get a rise out of people for pure entertainment value. It seems to be working. However, he does nothing to promote positive solutions to problem. Instead he just perpetuates them for the sole purpose of making good TV (and radio).

Even if vedder's view seemed more educated than orileys? Considering how ignorant that youtube video was, yeah im not banking much on a "Harvard education"

In reference to some of what I've read in this thread...I have a doctoral degree...trust me when I say that a college education & which institution you paid to give it to you means absolutely shit about your expertise and understanding of politics...particularly if you are narrow-minded and make your mind up about issues simply because they come from the left or the right...without thinking about them, like a lot of people do. This is not a slight on anyone in this thread or O'Reilly or Ed or anyone in particular. It's just a fact.

The majority of people in the US can be influenced quite easily by the media in general and people like O'Reilly...or anyone with an Ivy League education because we think they are smarter than us. The reality is that most folks are so out of touch with what's going on in the US and the world that we can be easily "sold" an idea by someone we think knows better than we do, like O'Reilly. Let me tell you that he and practically everyone else in the media is full of shit for the simple fact that they are pushing us ideas and ideals that some other full-of-shit person sold them. Let's beware and be careful about what we hear and what we think is "true". Let's educate ourselves with the facts and seek out the truth, and always consider the source...

...but then again maybe I'm full of shit too.

guys george w. bush went to yale and harvard which means hes obviously more intelligent and educated than these dumb "artists" and "actors" who think theyre allowed to have opinions, AND WORSE, express them openly because we all know people who go to ivy league schools graduate as the most educated, least ignorant people ever who have the most intelligent opinions ever......

I know a few people who graduated from Ivy League schools and they are no smarter than some people who graduated from community college.

I always find him to be very hard to listen to... he doesnt say any of the right things... He contradicts himself constantly... (ie when he is bashing springsteen) He goes on to say he has nothing to back up his statements with, yet Orileys statement has less back up than a one man band :P

Anyone who has to yell over people to make a point is pretty ignorant IMO as well.... If you are saying something of value that you believe true, you don't have to raise your voice to get the point across.

    well put....I agree 100%
