Slam campaign?! Am I the only one hearing this about Obama?

So, over the past couple of weeks I have been talking about the coming election, the primaries, who I think will do what, etc. The more I learn about the candidates, the more interesting this election becomes.

Then, on two completely separate occassions, I am talking to people who say that they absolutely do NOT want Obama in the White House because his wife scares them. They each said that his wife is far too Afrocentric even going as far as being anti-white.

The first time I heard someone say it, I immediately thought it was someone who read one of those stupid slam emails that goes around planting seeds in people's minds about the candidates. I basically wrote it off as someone being a little too easily influenced by propoganda.

Then, I heard it again from someone who has nothing to do with the first person mentioned. She was saying that Obama's wife is very anti-white, and it would be scary to have her as first lady.

In both cases, I challenged the person who said it, asking for something to base this lunacy on, and both said things to the effect of "You can just tell from her demeanor", etc. Neither was able to substantiate their claims or provide any kind of basis for it, but both were equally convinced that they were 100% correct in their allegations.

So... I am wondering if this is a common "fear" that people have - or if anyone else has heard it. If so, do YOU have any basis for your feelings?
For those who scoff at "Jamily" in my name... 9 years ago, when my first daughter was born there were jokes about whether my priority would be my family or PJ. I smiled and quipped "I am a JamilyMan." What was a family joke became a hated term among jammers. Didn't see that one coming!

this is the first of heard of people saying anything like this. it seems that some people are "grasping at straws" so they make up some ignorant, baseless excuse not to vote for a candidate simply based on that person's race.

next time someone says something like this to you just respond with "if Michelle Obama is so anti-white why would she have married a man that is half-white?"

Like I said, I challenged each of them. I was just shocked to hear it from two totally unrelated people, meaning that the message is floating around somewhere out there, and some people are buying into it.

In the internet age, it is very easy to start a smear campaign and plant those negative seeds. Often, it is the opponents camps that start these rumors through people very far removed from the public eye.

The next 10 months are certainly going to be interesting

You don't have to tell me, but, i'd be interested in knowing where you live to get an idea of wher this "concern" is being voiced. It may be the dumbest one i've heard yet.

I'll admit it: Obama's wife doesn't "scare" me, but she does bother me for some reason I can't put my finger on.

You know how someone just kind of rubs you the wrong way? That's her, for me. I'm not sure it should have anything to do with whether or not I would vote for him.

I didn't not vote for Kerry in '04 because he wife was a cunt. It was because he was a flip-flopping, pandering douchenozzle.

I live in the North East - Pennsylvania, to be exact. One of the people I heard it from was a fellow Philadelphia suburbanite - the other was a New Yorker (lives in burbs but is in the city a lot, too).

So, both were in the North East but very different in terms of their circles, etc.

It's just like people who live by the nightly news man... it's just constant fear about something with no substance.

Most people pay next to no attention to politics, so what they see and hear or read influences them positive or negative. They don't take time to parse it out as true or false.

This is basically worthless crap to people who know better... but unfortunately a lot of people buy this crap. What basis do any of us have knowing what any of these people are like personally, hell so much of the internet is someone making completely stupid shit and passing it off as truth anyway whether there is anything to it or not.

I just try to ignore it. I delete 99.9999% of all fowards I receive.

This is the kind of shit that Rove did to McCain in South Carolina 2000 with the Black Baby nonsense. No one in the media EVER confronts them on it or they simply refuse to talk about it.
My Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" She got really quiet.
