Mom accused of using infant to strike boyfriend
Monday, October 09, 2006
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
ERIE, Pa. -- A woman used her 4-week-old baby as a weapon during a domestic dispute, swinging the infant through the air and striking her boyfriend with the child, authorities said.
Chytoria Graham, 27, of Erie, remained in the Erie County Jail today, unable to post $75,000 bond on charges of aggravated assault, reckless endangerment and simple assault.
"The baby was swung at the individual that she was arguing with," Erie District Judge Thomas Robie told the Erie Times-News for today's editions.
District Attorney Bradley Foulk said the child was critically injured in the incident about 3:30 a.m. yesterday. The infant, whose gender was not released, was flown by helicopter to a Pittsburgh hospital.
"Never, never, never -- I can never remember anything like this," Mr. Foulk said.
It was not immediately clear if the man Ms. Graham allegedly attacked was the baby's father.
Authorities removed four other children from Graham's home and they were in the custody of the Erie County Office of Children and Youth. My whole life

Something has gone seriously awry with the human race when a mother can treat her own baby this way. If it were an isolated instance, that would be one thing, but it's not. Granted, this mother employed a unique method of child abuse, but women abusing or not caring for their babies happens all the time and it's alarming. I've never experienced anything more powerful than the urge to protect my children from harm, and it was particularly overwhelming when they were very small. That's as it should be, of course, and it exists throughout nature. It's incomprehensible to me how anyone could harm ANY baby, much less a mother harm her own infant. I can't even imagine how many things must have gone wrong in that woman's development to override such a strong biological urge."Nothing in the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity." ~ MLK, 19630

I would like to believe that only severe mental illness could explain this.. unfortunately, I'm deluding myself. I can't understand that either. My daugter is the only person in the world that I would die for or kill for.0 -
