i know i could. i can be a cold-blooded son of a bitch when it suits me. and i dont think legalizing murder is going to stop anyone from murdering as the original poster seems to think. just giving an honest answer to his question.
I really hope that you aren't serious. I suspect that you can't really imagine what it would be like to kill someone. Have you ever killed anything bigger than a fly?
It doesn't matter if you're male, female, or confused; black, white, brown, red, green, yellow; gay, lesbian; redneck cop, stoned; ugly; military style, doggy style; fat, rich or poor; vegetarian or cannibal; bum, hippie, virgin; famous or drunk-you're either an asshole or you're not!

not intentionally. but i never had cause to. ive hit 2 cats in my car on accident. if there's one thing my life has shown me it's that im capable of doing some truly horrible things to people without remorse.
is the gist of this thread that no one can be a true law abiding citizen because of all the stupid laws on the books?
I don't know if it's the gist of the thread but I agree with this. I guess you could be a true law abiding citizen if you really wanted to, but I don't see the point of it.
Yeah. I know. I'm guilty. I understand that. I knew it was a crime but I did it anyway. Shit, why argue? I'm a fucking criminal.

I don't know if I want to know what those things were.
I've killed a lot of animals in my time, and most of them weren't accidents. I know that doing the same thing to a person, essentially reducing them to the status of an animal and taking their life away, would be impossible for me to do, at least in cold blood. I don't need a law to tell me that its wrong.

Murder has nothing to do with the law and everything to do with brain damage.
I necessarily have the passion for writing this, and you have the passion for condemning me; both of us are equally fools, equally the toys of destiny. Your nature is to do harm, mine is to love truth, and to make it public in spite of you. - Voltaire

I'd love to hear which wacky direction you're going in with this one.

well, i dont need a law to know it's wrong, im just saying i probably wouldnt care if there wasnt going to be some serious blowback for doing it.

I think it's pretty obvious, I mean, everyone degrades others to a certain degree, right?
If a person has suffered experiences that cause cortisol to damage their amygdala, which in turn affects their compassion, or if a person has suffered damage to their executive functions, they may make a terrible mistake under extenuating circumstances. Whereas, under normal circumstances they may appear relatively normal.
A psychopath on the other hand is very obviously brain damaged. People that kill in numbers with no remorse clearly have something wrong with their brain.
Now, we know that thoughts and experience directly affect the brains pathways and chemical production and in turn those pathways and chemicals affect decision making. Then it's obvious that in any case, all behavior is relative to brain states and health. Therefor, murder comes about from particular brain states.
Regarding law, I don't see how the law as a deterrant plays any role in this. For example, a man comes home to catch his wife banging the milk man, for arguments sake, let's say the milkman is black and the husband is slightly racist towards black people. What will happen? Many people would turn around and leave, never to come back. Some people would kill the milkman, some would kill the milkman, their wife and themselves. That depends on their brain state and mental health, not on wether or not they will go to jail. A suicide killer is obviously not afraid of going to jail, he's intent on ending his own life as well.
So, while the law serves as a good measure of what is morally wrong, it by no means dictates how people actually act in this regard.

Ok, I agree with all that. I thought you were going to tell us that murder was correlated with brain injury or something.
But, yes, I agree that having laws against murder has little to do with people by and large choosing not to commit murder. Killing somebody would not be a good logical choice to make in most cases. I'd like to think that its not part of the nature of most humans. At least those who live in a normally functioning peaceful society. I don't think the threat of jail is all that stops people from going around killing each other for personal gain.
