A new "entity" has been created in western Pakistan and the Pakistani govt has signed a truce with the Taliban and Al-Qaeda and it appears they have ceeded part of their country to this new entity.

"What this means is that the Taliban and al Qaeda leadership have effectively carved out a sanctuary inside Pakistan," said ABC News consultant Richard Clarke, the former White House counter-terrorism director.

Be interesting to see if NATO operations in Afghanistan may now enter this new region what with Pakistan basically ceeding it to the Taliban/Al-Qaeda.
[sic] happens

The posted article states "The Taliban is required to refrain from violence in Pakistan only; the agreement does not stipulate refraining from violence in Afghanistan."

But today's New York Times says "In the agreement, signed by seven representatives of the Taliban council in North Waziristan, the militants pledged, 'There will be no cross-border movement for militant activity in neighboring Afghanistan.' They also vowed to stop attacks on government and security forces."

Isn't that a bit backwards - according to the rhetoric, at least? Or is our strategy "first in - last out?"

are you surprised?? pakistans intel agency <the isi> was the middle men between us <and some other countries> and ppl like bin laden in the 80's when it came to giving out the $.

so basically you have the isi who helped create these groups who were used in afghanistan, in kosovo, in chechneya, in the balkans....

then you have the head of the isi giving money to atta right before 9/11

then you have the head of paksitan bribing the 9/11 commission into not painting them in a bad light

then you have our tax money spend on matchbooks and flyers w/ reward info for bin laden and other members which never left the warehouse in pakistan...never even taken out of the boxes...

nice little circle we got here, eh?
    standin above the crowd
he had a voice that was strong and loud and
i swallowed his facade cos i'm so
    eager to identify with
    someone above the crowd
someone who seemed to feel the same
someone prepared to lead the way
