Article in the WSJ today on recruits responding back to interviews for major firms with overly "texty" language filled with exclamation points and smileys. In some cases, it'll cost you the job, while other firms think this is just the wave of the future.

Just wanna pipe up, the language some of us use around here, on the web or in our casual msgs -- will NOT get you hired in an ol' school business. The last bastions of formal grammar are by and large the major corporations and firms of the world.

    hahahahahahaha!
    that is HYSTERICAL!
    :D

i am oft accused, and an admitted, emoticon abuser :p.....but NO way would i ever use emoticons, or 'texty language' professionally! holy sheet! i am as professional as they come when it comes to my work and most especially my professional image when applying for a job. sweet bejeebus, that is unreal.

the fact that i write and use a lot of emoticons on this board while at work, completely unrelated. ;) it's just not busy season yet and one needs to keep busy to make the workday flow. :)

It irritates the hell out of me when someone uses text lingo or emoticons in a professional atmosphere. It is inappropriate. If someone applied for a job for me and e-mailed me something like, "It wuz good 2 meet u. I look forward 2 talking 2 u again." I would not call them back, even if they were otherwise qualified. Nothing like that should come out of a business environment.

You don't deserve the job anyhow if you're dumb enough to do such things.
