I backpacked through Jamaica about 7 years ago and it was great. Weed is NOT legal there but heavily smoked by everyone. Just be careful who you buy it from. I bought 10 grams for 20$ at the airport when I got there which was risky but thankfully it all worked out. Everyone smokes it there but just watch out for the cops

  • it's illegal but it's everywhere. we went to ocho rios on our honeymood in november, and we were offered it a lot. it might be risky around town, but i bet if you get to know a bartender at your resort, he will tell you what to do.

I spent 3 weeks in Jamaica last December, and 3 weeks this December for a mini-term abroad for school. I was in Treasure Beach, which is a very chill fishing village, on the southwest coast, and I can say that weed is everywhere and I never saw one person get in trouble after 6 weeks total there. It also is extremely cheap, very good, and we could just walk down the street smoking a joint. However, it might be different in the more touristy areas like Negril, Ochos Rios, and Montego Bay. But the Jamaican government is more concerned with cocaine then weed, so they usually just turn a blind eye. The one thing I would caution against is buying weed from people directly outside of the airport exit, because alot of them are undercover or so I've heard. Oh, and stay out of Kingston.

i don't think it has anything to do with how Jamaicans feel about weed, or how the local police feel about weed, etc...

No matter how lax the views are, i think it's a bad idea to do ANYTHING against the law in a country other than your own while you're on holidays.... that goes for any country. to many complications to try to get back home....

Great point, especially for those of you who haven't read "Midnight Express".
