I have been watching this since the original interview with GWB was aired on the Today show a few days ago.
The White House is bitching that NBC edited GWB unfavorably in a recent interview.
NBC fired back something to the effect that in a free society, the news media will present the, um...you know....news...
"Richard Engel's interview with President Bush has been available, unedited, in its entirety, for the past day, on our website. Our reporting accurately reflects the interview. Just as the White House does not participate in the editorial process at the Washington Post, the Wall Street Journal or USA Today, NBC News, as part of a free press in a free society, makes its own editorial decisions."
I know we all complain about the media bias to one degree or another, but I'm really enjoying this little altercation.
I find it ironic that FOX has chimed in on this now. Of course, representing the White House and saying how terrible NBC is. In fact, one of their "news people" said Keith Olbermann as a guy that "picks on peoples children".

Well NBC has earned a slight sliver of respect, but I think they are a day late and a dollar short when it comes to reporting the news about this administration. I mean where the fuck where they for the past 8 years. Now all of a sudden that Bush's approval rating is in the tank and that he basically has zero friends left in Washington they decide to stick it to the White House. They just have had the fucking balls to do this back in 2003 when this administration was blowing smoke up all our asses.
I have to agree. They fired Jesse Ventura and Phil Donahue possibly for opposing Iraq and nowadays they're a liberal beacon. I dunno...i like the channel i like Olbermann and Matthews but I totally get what you're saying.
I believe the media (specifically, the broadcast media) wanted the war. The first Gulf War basically created cable news and a lot of those low end reporters made huge career boosts from that war. An impending war would boost the number of viewers.
Also... raising question while everyone is waving flags in 2002 was riskiy. I remember assholes on this message board telling me I should move to Iraq because I was issuing warnings against going to war. To a commercial network it would have been serverely damaging.
Hail, Hail!!!
What you mention is funny, in that I said something similar to my husband this week when this story broke.
It is funny to me how, it's like suddenly they see a light at the end of the tunnel (end of Bush's term) and suddenly they grew some balls. And its pretty sad they didn't do it all along.
Next thing you know, this whole White House/NBC thing is blowing up.

all that said...i've kinda grown tired of olberman being over-the-top (IMO) dem.
love matthews.
respect joe scarborough. he really does a nice job on the morning show.
i've always gotten a kick outta tucker carlson (though the libertarian stuff can be a bit much sometimes).
really respect MSNBC for having pat buchannan on. truth be told, though he's very often giving me a counterpoint i don't agree with, i really respect where he's coming from. i think he gives fantastic balance to that network.
i don't know about the whole NBC/white house shit...mostly b/c i don't want to hear it, but on the whole, MSNBC is where i go in the mornings and when i want an 'overall' view of the day when i get home.
Then there's this obsession this Administration has with buzzwords. There's the word, then there's the place where you use the word that make the difference. If you use the word Appeaser as a derogatory term, to reference a person who would want to include all parties in peace talks, then "HERE's YOUR SIGN", because the only counter to mocking a person as an Appeaser, is to applaud a person who seeks continuous fighting and death.
Israel, for all of America's support, would like to see the time come when the crying has stopped and the nights are silent. Peace is not a one-sided issue, war is, Israel knows this, it sees the effect of years of conflict on its people and the people of the region. At some point, even Israel has to feel sad that they have to send their children aboard to feel safe.
Bush's mistake in using the word Appeaser, was to suggest that Israel liked living in a constant state of conflict. That Israel, as long as they have the support of the U.S., don't care if their children will never know peace, never have that quite night, never be secure from suicide bombs, never enjoy their own country. Maybe, Bush should have asked those present in the Israeli parliament what support it needed from the U.S. to secure peace for Israel and its rival fractions?
Here's note. Someone should have told Bush that playing the Hitler card only works if your jewish, just ask Hagee.
Psst. FOX News has not only edited, but blatantly distorted news reports from other sources. Hell, FOX News interceded on behalf of "Got Milk" and won the right to knowingly state lies and distort fact. Now they want to cry foul because some turned the tables on one of their stories. Grow some!!!!
