"Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas has said peace talks with Israel have failed to reach any breakthrough, despite nine months of negotiations.

"I can't say that even one issue has been agreed upon," Mr Abbas told Israel's Haaretz newspaper.

All sides have expressed hope that a peace deal could be reached by the end of the year, but Mr Abbas said this was now improbable."

hmm...

so it seems the 'core issues' are "the status of Jerusalem, the borders of a Palestinian state, settlements in the West Bank, refugees, security and water resources."

Jerusalem: International law and a ruling from the International Court of Justice states that Palestine has a right to establish a capital in East Jerusalem.
the borders of a Palestinian state: Funny that they also don't mention the borders of an Israeli state, seeing as how it's the only country in the world who refuses to declare its own borders.
settlements: No agreement has been reached in this probably because Israel blatantly lied to the entire world - including the U.S. - by saying it had ceased settlement building in the West Bank, when in reality, it was just doubling it.
Refugees: Israel refuses to accept the fact that there are Palestinians in the world who want to come back to their homeland. Of course, all this means in reality is that even if Palestine were to be made a sovereign state, Israel would still want control over its immigration.
Security: Palestine has been under an oppression for over 60 years, thousands and thousands have been killed, thousands and thousands of houses bulldozed, villages sacked, people used as human shields, excessive force used by soldiers.... oh, not to mention the fact that Jewish settlers have been harassing innocent Palestinians for far too long.
Water Resourcers: It is no secret that Israel wishes to control all the water around the area, which is why during the Oslo Accords which everyone thinks was leading to a huge success, they presented Arafat with a disgusting idea of a state that was virtually cut off from many supplies, including water.

So... where does the peace begin?
