It's time we respect Bristol's "choice"...

ok, can someone please help explain something to me?

We're told to not involve ourselves in the Palin family's "personal matters" and that Bristol "decided" (chose) to keep the baby...

and yet, Palin, at the same time, says that if she is elected Vice Pres. on the McCain ticket, she will take away our ability to make the same choice her family just made?

Essentially we're told to respect her family's personal matters, but it's ok if she involves herself in every family's decision in the country, in every gay couple's decision in the country, in other countries and other civilians in other countries (probably millions of which will die or be displaced as a result of her Vice Presidency with McCain)?

One rule for them, one rule for the rest of America....

I think this whole thing with Bristol is fucking hilarious, she really has just shat all over her mother's campaign.....and singlehandedly proven why abortion should be a choice and just how outdated christian 'values' are.....

I mean, because she's got herself up the duff, she's gonna HAVE to marry her boyfriend now...at SEVENTEEN.....fuckin' incredible.....

Personally... I respect the Palin family's ability to choose what is best for their family. It is their choice to decide which is best for them. I am almost certain that Sarah Palin didn't force Bristol to choose to move towards parenthood... although, it will probably lead to tough lessons in life.
But, ultimately, it is their personal choice to make... not mine... not the rest of America's... and most certainly, not the State's choice to make for them.

this proves why abortion should be legal? why? there is nothing wrong with a 17 year old having a baby.

now if doctors said Bristol would face certain death by giving birth then yea, I might agree with you but killing a baby just because the pregnancy was unplanned doesnt prove abortion should be legal.

That's a big time stretch in logic and reasoning. There are all kinds of laws already on the books that aren't protested that impact families' personal matters.

No but there is a huge difference between the 17 year old daughter of a state governor, and maybe Vice President, getting pregnant and having a loving supportive also financial established family to help her compared to an inner city or rural town 17 year old girl with no family support. I'm sure Bristol is not going to have to drop out of school to work at some dead end low paying job just to support her baby. Bristol will probably have the opportunity to go off to college, earn her degree and make a good life for herself and her child. I'm sure for a girl in Bristol's position it is a lot easier to say I will keep the baby than it is for a girl from a poor family.

I know and his point was valid. If the Palin family is telling everyone to respect Bristol's decision, which they should, then why can't they respect every families decision. You can't have it both ways. You can't just expect people to respect your choice but in return not respect theirs.

yep.... all of this just re-enforces all of her conservative views which make her good political pick.. whether or not you agree with those views.

There's no hypocrisy here. Whatever you believe about abortion is irrelevant to the question of the media putting a 17 year old pregnant girl through the ringer.

Really through the ringer. Did the media hound her day and night? Did they stick microphones in the poor girls face as she tried to just live her life? Where papparazzi stalking her at every turn? Yes there was the initial media frenzy over the news but by the next day nothing.

Also there is an inherent hypocrisy. Sarah Palin is asking that the public respect her daughter CHOICE. Meanwhile she is deeply oppossed to letting other pregnant women have the same opportunity to choose what they feel is best.

You missed the point completely. She advocates for the government to interfere in the same choice her daughter just had the freedom to make. I'm talking about Palin specifically, not laws in general.

You claim there's no hypocrisy, but you don't refute it at all. You continue to make a point that's completely irrelevant.

I'm not trying to justify 'putting a 17 year old through the ringer', I'm talking about the fact that Palin is advocating taking away... just read the post on top of this one, I don't need to say it again.

    Exactly.

Sarah Palin is a horrible candidate, and person, in general.
