'Ralph Nader’s reputation preceded him, and the crowd started lining up early for the political activist’s Nov. 14 appearance at UB Law School, where he was invited as the guest of the Student Bar Association.

They were not disappointed. Nader – a Harvard-trained attorney – entertained and challenged especially the law students in his audience with frank words about legal education, the legal profession and lawyers’ responsibility to work for the public good."

WHat he said was spot on that is on you get people's attention. I heard it when he said on Democracy Now and it got me listening more closely.

Fantastic speech. I enjoyed the bit about DK too.

Especially enjoyed the bit about what gets a rise out of this generation.

I don't think Nader should be ignored, he's a smart guy, but running for president seemed like a waste of his time and resources. He is doing now what he should have been doing all along-calling out those in power...holding them accountable. that's what he does best.

Ding Ding Ding. Nader supporters act like I was insulting the man when I would say he wouldn't be an effective president and he should use his time to be an activist.

This is what he is and its a damn good thing.

Getting on with life, trying to make a difference in the real world and enjoying spending time with much more positive people rather than people who just wanna bitch and moan about how fucked up everything is without ever posting anything positive about how they are trying to get their voices heard about how unhappy they are about the current situation .

So anyway, what are you doing about it, apart from posting on a pearl Jam Message Board. And Roland, what are you doing about anything you seem so unhappy with, apart from posting other peoples blogs on here? How is your voice being heard and making a difference? What are you doing to try and contibute towards turning our country around again besides posting here? Why don't you move here, i mean you are so concerned with how things are, c'mon over, settle in, work with the people and do something that makes a difference other than empty words on a message board.

I bombard the Obama Campaign constantly with thoughts and views on what i am not happy with. You want to know why i don't do it here very often anymore? Because you guys are so quick to turn around and mock and attack and call people sheep and idiots and fucktards for voting Obama in the first place. Whilst i am shaking my head at a couple of the recent decisions he has made, i am still comfortable with my vote for him. You never want to discuss anything rationally, always looking to attack.

I'm comfortable also with the way i stand up for and try and contribute to my country. I moved from Aus and i am doing the same line of work i was there, working as a paramedic. I earn $15k a year less here for doing more work and under more difficult circumstances, any savings i still have there, once converted to US Dollars are now only worth 65c in the dollar, so it's almost impossible for me to even think about buying a home here. I volunteer 8 hours a week at the childrens cancer unit over and above my normal paid working hours. I don't think i'm anything special, far from it, i know there's plenty of others who are working hard to try and make a difference. I do a lot more to contibute to the economy here than some random who does nothing but post negative crap about my country 24 7. You wonder why I get pissed at Roland. That's why. What is he doing to try and make a difference. Everything from him is negative.

You make fun of people all the time about having 'hope'. Having 'hope', doesn't make one stupid. Having 'hope' does not make one blind to any problems. If you try and take that away from people they will give up and become comfortably numb. No thanks. Not my style. How easy it would be for me to move back to Australia. I don't give in that easily though. I've come to love it here.

And never forget, as much as you like to call us all the names you are so fond of doing, at the end of the day, we have a brain, can see that everything is far from perfect and are trying to do what we can in our own small way to make a difference, and don't be so surprised that most of us don't want to contribute to your negative sarcastic posts anymore. I can see some of you guys spending the next 4 years doing this. That's sad. How about doing something real that might just make a difference.
