Now That Obama Has Won . . . There is No Excuse

I wonder how many, if any, of these are touched upon now? I'm going to early guess little to none.

"Now that a Democrat has been elected president, the Democrats in Congress have no excuse. They can no longer pretend that they have to "hold back" to win the election.

They have no excuse to delay war crimes charges against Bush, Cheney and company for Iraq.

They have no excuse to delay war crimes charges for torture.

They have no excuse to delay criminal charges for spying on Americans.

They have no excuse to delay criminal charges for 9/11.

Now is not the time for Democratic machine politics. Now is the time to implement true American values - cherished across the political aisle - of liberty and justice.

There can be no liberty in America unless the tyrants who have tried to imprison us and enslave us are prosecuted.

There can be no justice in America unless the high and mighty are held accountable for their actions.

Obama is a former Constitutional law professor. He knows the value of the Constitution and the rule of law. He promised during his campaign to curb the unconstitutional practices of the executive branch.

But that is not enough. Because if the tyrants in both parties who have trampled on the vision of the founding fathers are not held accountable, then future tyrants will learn that they can get away with it, also.

Now that Obama has won, there is no excuse. Those who have trampled on our country and our people must be held to account for the whole world and future generations to see."
Progress is not made by everyone joining some new fad,
and reveling in it's loyalty. It's made by forming coalitions
over specific principles, goals, and policies.

I don't think that there will be charges of any kind for the former president nor his staff nor former senators, etc...

The excuse will be- "we were doing what we thought was best for the country"

Obama will just have to move forward and do the best that he can.

The one thing is that this new government can not sit on its laurels and expect the people to accept the same old shit. He said change, so we are looking and expecting it.

If not, then he will really be in trouble.
  • I told my wife last night that the entire Democratic party is at stake right now. They took a majority of Congress in 2006, and soon after the approval rating of Congress was lower than Bush's (which I didn't think would even be possible). Now they have expanded their control of Congress and they have the White House. The weight is entirely on their shoulders now to put up or shut up. I hope for the best for all of us.

Let's hope you are as innacurate with your guesses here, as you were when you decided that Obamas grandma wasn't dying, insinuating he was looking for sympathy votes, oh and to take the heat off him over his fake birth certificate that wasn't really fake afterall eh?

Yet the idiots around the country continue to vote the incumbents back into office...it must always be the other guys' incumbents that aren't doing anything...huh.

I tend not to play favorites when I scrutinize things, perhaps to a fault sometimes, but afterall the the birth certificate issue was frivolous at best. Entertaining just the same though.

I don't play favorites when i scrutinize things either. It would be pretty hard to have an open mind if you do.

    ...
Not me. My Congressman, whom I've supported in past elections did not get my vote. I voted for an Independent... but, the incumbant Representative won his seat for another term. And I feel that Congressman Royce has been good to my district. I even sent his office a letter, voicing my intentions.
    ...
So... why did I vote against him?
Because he is part of a Legislative body that has a 12% approval rating. That like getting 12 out of 100 questions right on a test... an F grade is what... 54% proficiency? These guys need to improve 400% to reach F-.
    So.. I did my part.
    ...
But, you are absolutely right... all these fucking 'Term Limit' morons want term limits on everyone else's Representatives... not their own.

that's a pretty simplistic view of the companion issues of racism and poverty. further proof that most people don't have a fucking clue.

saw an interview with Dennis Kucinich, who was a supporter of bringing up the war crimes charges ...

He said even with Obama getting voted in ... it's, "not likely" ....

Obama was against the impeachment of Bush, he said that he did not think that W had done anything serious enough to deserve it.
  • i dont remember democrats running on a "warcrimes charges for all" platform...

and i'm sure they could come up with excuses anyway, like, ohh say for instance: CIVIL WAR PART II!

I totally agree!!!! But I don't know how much it is realistic to expect such things..... I just think now it's up to the people to make pressures on these issues and others, at least you will have more chances to be heard now.
I would just add a few more:
no excuse to delay the closure of guantanamo
no excuse to delay the issue of climate change
no excuse to delay the moratorium on the death penalty

a question about the last one: is Obama really for death penality or do you think it was only a temporary stand he took for his election propaganda?
  • you're right in that there really are 'no excuses' for working towards the policies that obama and the democrats said they believed in and supported...however, i would say much on your list was NOT promised, nor even what the majority of americans want....so why would all that occur?

it IS exciting to think some positive change can happen, if so many are in agreement on much....get more pushed through a bit more easily, etc.

i am far more interested in seeing the governement working on getting an exit plan in action for iraq, preventing future aggressive actions, working on healthcare, environmental policy, etc.

and eva.....i wonder that too. that is probably the one issue i am am on complete opposite sides with obama's stated stances. i am completely anti-death penalty. and while i do think i's a very important issue....there are FAR more prssing issues in my own mind that even with that, he still was my best choice. i've yet to find a candidate who 100% represents my views.
    Stay with me...

They do have an excuse to not do all those things.
