Progress is not made by everyone joining some new fad,

1. she has a press pass.
2. she's sitting there trying to explain everything to them, but they 'don't wanna hear it'.
cops can go fuck themselves. and the justice system is a piece of shit. all these shitty laws and regulations that try to limit protests and demonstrations as much as possible.0 -
I posted this on my site about Amy whom I've met and spoken to her at other protest marches in DC. She is one the most peaceful and kind hearted people i know this is just outrageous what they did here. I hope she's released soon. I gather you better not go anywhere near or utter a protest word at there half enthused convention.
A bit more on her arrest....Goodman was arrested while attempting to free two Democracy Now! producers who
were being unlawfully detained. They are Sharif Abdel Kouddous and Nicole
Salazar. Kouddous and Salazar were arrested while they carried out their
journalistic duties in covering street demonstrations at the Republican National
Convention. Goodman's crime appears to have been defending her colleagues and
the freedom of the press.
Ramsey County Sheriff Bob Fletcher told Democracy Now! that Kouddous and Salazar
were being arrested on suspicion of rioting. They are currently being held at
the Ramsey County jail in St. Paul.
Democracy Now! is calling on all journalists and concerned citizens to call the
office of Mayor Chris Coleman and the Ramsey County Jail and demand the
immediate release of Goodman, Kouddous and Salazar. These calls can be directed
to: Chris Rider from Mayor Coleman's office at 651-266-8535 and the Ramsey
County Jail at 651-266-9350 (press extension 0).
Democracy Now! stands by Goodman, Kouddous and Salazar and condemns this action
by Twin Cities law enforcement as a clear violation of the freedom of the press
and the First Amendment rights of these journalists.
During the demonstration in which they were arrested law enforcement officers
used pepper spray, rubber bullets, concussion grenades and excessive force.

I've met Amy Goodman on numerous occasions as well, and she really is a great person.0 -
I can't wait for her tomorrow morning and what she'll have to say...Here's an UPDATE...
**UPDATE**
Democracy Now!'s Amy Goodman, Sharif Abdel Kouddous and Nicole Salazar
Released After Illegal Arrest at RNC
Goodman Charged with Obstruction; Felony Riot Charges Pending Against
Kouddous and Salazar
ST. PAUL--Democracy Now! host Amy Goodman and producers Sharif Abdel
Kouddous and Nicole Salazar have all been released from police custody
in St. Paul following their illegal arrest by Minneapolis Police on
Monday afternoon.
All three were violently manhandled by law enforcement officers. Abdel
Kouddous was slammed against a wall and the ground, leaving his arms
scraped and bloodied. He sustained other injuries to his chest and back.
Salazar's violent arrest by baton-wielding officers, during which she
was slammed to the ground while yelling, "I'm Press! Press!," resulted
in her nose bleeding, as well as causing facial pain. Goodman's arm was
violently yanked by police as she was arrested.
On Tuesday, Democracy Now! will broadcast video of these arrests, as
well as the broader police action. These will also be available on:
http://www.democracynow.org
Goodman was arrested while questioning police about the unlawful
detention of Kouddous and Salazar who were arrested while they carried
out their journalistic duties in covering street demonstrations at the
Republican National Convention. Goodman's crime appears to have been
defending her colleagues and the freedom of the press.
Ramsey County Sheriff Bob Fletcher told Democracy Now! that Kouddous and
Salazar were arrested on suspicion of rioting, a felony. While the three
have been released, they all still face charges stemming from their
unlawful arrest. Kouddous and Salazar face pending charges of suspicion
of felony riot, while Goodman has been officially charged with
obstruction of a legal process and interference with a "peace officer."
Democracy Now! forcefully rejects all of these charges as false and an
attempt at intimidation of these journalists. We demand that the charges
be immediately and completely dropped.
Democracy Now! stands by Goodman, Kouddous and Salazar and condemns this
action by Twin Cities' law enforcement as a clear violation of the
freedom of the press and the First Amendment rights of these journalists.
During the demonstration in which the Democracy Now! team was arrested,
law enforcement officers used pepper spray, rubber bullets, concussion
grenades and excessive force against protesters and journalists. Several
dozen demonstrators were also arrested during this action, including a
photographer for the Associated Press.
Amy Goodman is one of the most well-known and well-respected journalists
in the United States. She has received journalism's top honors for her
reporting and has a distinguished reputation of bravery and courage. The
arrest of Goodman, Kouddous and Salazar and the subsequent criminal
charges and threat of charges are a transparent attempt to intimidate
journalists.
Democracy Now! is a nationally-syndicated public TV and radio program
that airs on over 700 radio and TV stations across the US and the globe.

You didn't see what happened before the video, and she was trying to walk through the police line. as for your ignorant view of the police and justice system as a whole is a joke at best."Music, for me, was fucking heroin." eV (nothing Ed has said is more true for me personally than this quote)

There's a lot more to this video and this story and i pretty sure Amy will broadcast what actually happened. I'll make sure and post what she had to say. Even in protest marches I've been to in front of the White House the police didn't act like this, and we're talking about 100,000 people or more.

I don't know when this happened in relations to the idiots earlier, so anarchist group making trouble sometime after mid-day. I know individual situations happen that are wrong, but other situation lead to this sometimes. Some people make quiet trouble just to get arrested and feed their own stories. I'm not accusing Amy Goodman, just saying that she did try and walk through the offices line, and they teach in riot training to never let that happen."Music, for me, was fucking heroin." eV (nothing Ed has said is more true for me personally than this quote)

Just so you know a press pass means nothing.. I was a fully credentialed photographer at one point, they mean nothing( and in NJ ours are signed by the State Police). It states it right on the pass that these are not to be used to cross police lines etc..
Not saying what happened there was right, just saying the pass means nothing.Thats a lovely accent you have. New Jersey?

You'll hear what she has to say about this in today's Democracy Now broadcast (give it a listen or read or watch) and then we can formulate better opinions as to what happened here. One thing is for sure Amy Will be forthright as to what happened.

This sucks. It's not just in the US, though. A while ago there was a march by an ultra right wing group. Left groups started their own march and protest... Police used excessive force to stop the left wing protesters, who were having a peaceful protest. Four of my friends live in the street where the (left) protest was held. They saw the brutal actions of the police, one of them went down stairs and started taking pictures of police beating kids. He was kicked by a police officer and told to come along. He explained he wasn't part of the protest and lived in the building across the street. They held him for 3 hours and erased his pictures.
This really was a peaceful protest, but the police was way too violent. In the news they said the left protesters had started the riot :rolleyes:THANK YOU, LOSTDAWG!

Democracy Now had two broadcasts this morning and they quite revealing. To make a long story short Amy Goodman was on the convention floor conducting interviews. She was texted that her colleagues were being arrested and they needed help. She went to where they were sitting handcuffed and simply trying find the commander to release her DN producers.
They were rounded up without cause and without checking to see that they were press trying to video tape the procedings. I'll give the full transcripts later.

you've chimed in with your little viva la police state like 5 times in a matter of a few weeks that I've been here. only someone who has never or rarely been here says things like that. easy guess that you arent even american.0 -
This is America! That is a national security event! You play you pay!
Its very simple:
We (police, national guard etc) dont want or need to hear your explanations or excuses. We tell you to leave if you dont, we lock you up, its your choice period. We dont need a reason other than because we said so. You dont like it leave the country.0 -
On 29 September 2006, the House and Senate approved the Military Commissions Act of 2006 (MCA), a bill that would remove habeas corpus for any person determined to be an “unlawful enemy combatant" engaged in hostilities or having supported hostilities against the United States”[4][5] by a vote of 65–34. (This was the result on the bill to approve the military trials for detainees; an amendment to remove the unavailability of habeas corpus failed 48–51.[6]) President Bush signed the Military Commissions Act of 2006 into law on October 17, 2006. The declaration of a person as an "unlawful enemy combatant" is at the discretion of the US executive branch of the administration, and there is no right of appeal, with the result that this potentially eliminates habeas corpus for any non-citizen.0
