Macgyver...what time is it in Fl?

"I just got off the phone with Libertarian Party Executive Director Shane Cory and he confirms the following information: Former US Senator and Alaska House Speaker Mike Gravel has joined the Libertarian Party. Cory says he’ll provide more in a media release to be expected over the next few hours."

Progress is not made by everyone joining some new fad,
and reveling in it's loyalty. It's made by forming coalitions
over specific principles, goals, and policies.

OK, but it still won't get him within shouting distance of winning a presidential election. Not ripping him, just saying...

Former U.S. Senator Mike Gravel joins Libertarian Party ranks

Believes Democrats are out of touch with American citizens

Washington, D.C. - Mike Gravel, a former Alaskan Senator and Democratic candidate for president, has joined the Libertarian Party.

"I'm joining the Libertarian Party because it is a party that combines a commitment to freedom and peace that can't be found in the two major parties that control the government and politics of America," says Gravel. "My libertarian views, as well as my strong stance against war, the military industrial complex and American imperialism, seem not to be tolerated by Democratic Party elites who are out of touch with the average American; elites that reject the empowerment of American citizens I offered to the Democratic Party at the beginning of this presidential campaign with the National Initiative for Democracy."

Gravel served in the United States Senate from 1969 to 1981. Most recently, Gravel was a Democratic presidential candidate, though forced out of national debates by Democratic Party leadership and the media. Gravel officially became a member of the Libertarian Party today.

Gravel is the most recent former member of Congress to switch to the Libertarian Party. In 2006, former Republican Congressman Bob Barr joined the Libertarian Party.

"It is a distinct honor to have another former member of Congress within the Libertarian Party," says Barr. "Just as Senator Gravel believes Democrats have lost touch with the American public, I too concluded Republicans had lost their core principles, and could no longer associate myself with the GOP. While coming from opposite sides of the aisle, Senator Gravel and I definitely agree on the fundamental need for systemic change in our political system, and that the only way we have of effecting that change is by supporting and working in the Libertarian Party, which is the only political party in America that consistently works in word and deed to maximize individual liberty and minimize government power."

"We're honored to have a former member of the United States Senate join our ranks," says Libertarian Party Executive Director Shane Cory. “Senator Gravel has a sincere dedication to empowering the American people and eliminating the corrupting influence of the two major parties. His switch from the Democratic Party, as well as former Congressman Barr’s abandonment of the GOP, shows that the Libertarian Party is truly a big tent organization moving firmly in the direction of Liberty.”

The Libertarian Party is America's third largest political party, founded in 1971 as an alternative to the two main political parties. You can find more information on the Libertarian Party by visiting http://www.lp.org. The Libertarian Party proudly stands for smaller government, lower taxes and more freedom.

Ron Paul's ideas are deemed 'radical' by many. I guess it just depends on which side you butter your bread as to which radical lines of thinking are good enough to be taken seriously.

  • Gravel FTW! heh

honestly he's comes off as fringe, but he's got balls, he's honest, and he's just quirky enough to be eccentric.

That would pretty cool...the US chills out on gravel, and properly pairs up with the Canadian/west coast chill vibe..

Because our system is a sham, not because Gravel is undeserving.

outside the norm, sure. nah, I don't think his ideas are radical. I think the majority of his followers are. thats why rp was never taken seriously.

No, lots of people call Ron Paul's stances radical. Did you not watch the debates? or hear the commentary from the news networks?

I said I don't think his views are radical. although I guess some are, now that I think about it. so I really don't care what others think. yes I watched the debates. I thought he failed miserably. he sounded like he was crying like a little girl with the high pitched voice and crazy finger pointing. most of the news commentary was spot on. ron paul is a smart guy and belongs in government but he is not qualified for the top job. same goes for gravel.

I don't know a lot about Mike Gravel but I think he'll probably like the freedom that comes with the new digs. It's nice to have people that have held beliefs thier entire lives be open to new ones.

    I don't think a lot of Bob Barr though. I think he's a baffoon.

Since his undoing foolishly handling and firing an antique hand gun at an NRA party I believe no less he's moved toward upholding civil liberties. I just see him as a political opportunist. He's kind of a joke really.
My Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" She got really quiet.

Well, I disagree with your assertions about radicals thinking unclearly and that Paul or Gravel are somehow unqualified.

Different doesn't equal illogical. In this day and age, it seems like the dissenting voices who call it like it is, are the only sane ones.

  • Peaceful foreign policy and wealth preservation...radical.

shock and awe, depreciating dollar value via hyper inflation...normal because the Fed says so...must never question the banking cartel. Normal?

interesting how far minds have been conditioned...

    50/50 Trump strips during convention.
The most important thing any voter can do is vote for the person who best embodies his or her ideals, whether or not that candidate has a good chance at winning the White House. Johnson has no realistic chance, but high turnout for the Libertarians could qualify them for debates, campaign funding, and help grow the party in numerous other ways.

So if you're reading this and are one of the many agonizing over voting for Trump or growing sick to death of the Clintons, know you have the option to vote for the person you actually want to be president. That could be Gary Johnson and William Weld, but it need not be. And the same holds true for independent candidates like David French. Celebrate choice on Election Day, and you won't walk out of the ballot box feeling profoundly dissatisfied.
