How can more tax dollars be spent?...let us count the ways.

I think this takes off from Hitlers dream of the perfect super soldier.

Progress is not made by everyone joining some new fad,
and reveling in it's loyalty. It's made by forming coalitions
over specific principles, goals, and policies.

The UN estimates 11-13 million people die every year from easily curable diseases and starvation.

Have your holocaust. Spend more money, go.

It's pretty nuts. This is full on Robocop coming to life. They're going to skin these things with bullet proof exoskeletons. People suffering, and are starving en masse and we have corporations developing stuff like this to keep them down if need be....holy sht.

  • That's AWESOME! Man, that would have been nice to have when I was in Iraq. I could have killed like 150 percent more babies. Cause that's the only application these things have of course. Right?

    Productivity through the roof baby!

I didn't watch this when it was first posted.

I do think it's a shame the way new technology is always pimped by the military industry.
...but I couldn't help geeking out a bit over this....I wanna try one.

It's not a big deal. The military always leads the way in technology and innovation, because they can afford the research costs. But the goods always make their way to the private sector for a plethora of different uses. In fact apparently, we wouldn't have the ultra cool 3-D video games we have today if it wasn't for the military. I just learned that last week on the discovery channel.

I have no examples to cite (no time to research at the moment), but I don't think it's that simple. I think the military can be harmful in that regard as well. Things that are being developed for beneficial means get taken over and developed for war...the military makes it all more secretive...the secrecy discourages competition...you would think in the long run it would delay the beneficial aspects. Also, don't forget who is "affording" the research. I don't want to get into an ideology debate...but how big a deal it is depends on your views on who would spend that money most efficiently, and where it should come from.

All of it? Really? Are you saying that all DOD contractors only create things that are used to kill? Cause I'm pretty sure that would be really incorrect. And really fucking stupid.

Secretive? Yes, but that's the price you pay to get research funding. Universitys do it and so do businesses. Corporate espionage is a huge issue in the private sector. Well without getting into an argument about ideologies, I'll patiently wait for these examples of projects taken over by the government.

What about darpa, that's not so secret what they need and offer prizes for?

Still not getting it eh? Hmmm, I think I'll just leave it at that. I could do without the headache this close to Christmas.

Hydration is key, yes. So I just found the top ten army inventions for 2005, I didn't see any later ones, but of the 10, 3 were designed to kill, or make already prevalent weapon systems better. The other 7 were medical, or technology inventions. Inventions designed to provide medical aid or deter killing.

So I guess I missed your blanket rah rah military industrial complex, blood for oil, baby killing maniacs argument.

Ya know, Noam Chomsky worked for a DOD contractor. Now he's a multi-property owning multi-millionare many times over, who still tries to play the commy card. Yikes.

It's almost midnight here, I'm exhausted, my place is a mess and my parents are coming in tomorrow for Christmas. I'll maybe start with laundry using my GE washer... hey GE was a DOD contractor too. See ya tomorrow.

hey, I left all kinds of disclaimers there bub. I know I'm talkin out my ass, it was speculation, an admitedly uninformed opinion.
I don't have the time or patience to research examples.
Espionage? Would you rather have spies checking out your new fuel source or new terminator? I dunno...I guess it all goes back to the ideologies.

Darpa goes against mine as well. More corrupt cronies (Poindexter? c'mon) Involved in shady programs like that lifelog bullshit. Ideologies again...but I think it's a big waste of taxpayer money. If there is a market for these products, someone will develop them.

And I must have been too hopeful that you would address my points or develop an argument... Oh well long live blind ideology and a lack of cognitive thought... the best thing ever...

I think the MIC is a dangerous thing, you don't see it for some reason. The bad is outweighing the good. The MIC is hardly the only innovative business in the world....they do steal the most money for taxpayers to do it all though...so it's little wonder really.

You're beginning to parrot my words in order to thump your own chest....dude...go to bed.
