Petraeus out of step with US top brass
By Gareth Porter

WASHINGTON - In sharp contrast to the lionization of General David Petraeus by members of the US Congress during his testimony this week, Petraeus's superior, Admiral William Fallon, chief of the Central Command (Centcom), derided Petraeus as a sycophant during their first meeting in Baghdad in March, according to Pentagon sources familiar with reports of the meeting.

Fallon told Petraeus that he considered him to be "an ass-kissing little chickenshit" and added, "I hate people like that," the sources

say. That remark reportedly came after Petraeus began the meeting by making remarks that Fallon interpreted as trying to ingratiate himself with a superior.

That extraordinarily contentious start of Fallon's mission to Baghdad led to more meetings marked by acute tension between the two commanders. Fallon went on to develop his own alternative to Petraeus's recommendation for continued high levels of US troops in Iraq during the summer.

The enmity between the two commanders became public knowledge when the Washington Post reported on September 9 of intense conflict within the administration over Iraq. The story quoted a senior official as saying that referring to "bad relations" between them is "the understatement of the century".

i'm confused. media pundits like Bill O'Reilly and Cal Thomas keep telling me that the integrity of Gen. Petraeus is beyond reproach. don't they know better than some Admiral/CENTCOM commander dude?

and by the way, am i the only one bothered by the idea that we have divided up our military to claim responsibility for specific areas of the world such as this??

12 million people live in Tehran alone. Iran is very modernized, and comparable to any industrialized city in the world.

The media paints a very specific picture don't they. Like a bunch of insane uneducated sheep herding farmers with rocket launchers.

But then again a lot of Americans thought Canada (their immediate neighbor...connected by land) was all just eskimos and igloos for the longest time.

I was really just kidding but thanks anyway. It's true the country is portrayed in a simple negative perspective. A country of no consequence. You should have seen the PRO-WAR people in the march today in DC. They were chanting and had signs to bomb IRAN.

Oh my knees are killing me in part from playing with a 4 year old, got keep the young ones entertained. As for the turn out it was great near 20,000 or more I'm not really sure. I'd have pics but I left my camera on and the batteries died.

The peace marchers were mostly peaceful from what I could see. They were a few arrests of those who crossed a barrier to the Capital steps. Pro-War tried their best to intimidate or tempt me into a confrontation, "traitor" was one their favorite comments. They wanted none of me I just told them thank you and smiled, they got even more pissed off. What a bunch of angry people they were unbelievable and in front of small children. I almost lost it once though when made a comment about race mixing.

ALL and ALL....It was a truly memorable day one and one I won't forget anytime in the beautiful people I met and the not so beautiful people too.

Awesome. Looking for some vids but none yet. It's really sad to see all some people have is hate in their hearts.

Hate, fear, and anger for what they don't understand. One day they will learn what is really important in life (one hopes).
