How did the upcoming Green River reunion come up?
Over a year ago, [Sub Pop founder and chairman] Jonathan [Poneman] said he was thinking about doing a twentieth anniversary thing, and would it be possible for Green River to play? Everyone agreed to it rather quickly, but then nothing happened for almost a year. We did get two practices in last month, and it was really cool because it was the first time all of us had been in a room together in a long, long time. Steve was in town for the first practice, so I think we’re actually going to have three guitar players. It’s gonna be like the Green River version of Lynyrd Skynyrd, just guys trading solos while I stand there going “Huh?”

Did you learn anything about the Green River songs during rehearsals?
There’s one thing that we noticed, and it’s that a lot of those songs are busier than they need to be. Everyone was just like, “Holy crap! Why did we do that?” But by the second rehearsal everybody had a pretty good feeling about things.

And you're doing a Green River reunion? You didn't have any qualms about revisiting the past?

Steve Turner: No, it sounded like fun.
Mark Arm: There's nothing at stake.
ST: We've had one practice so far...
MA: Two! You couldn't make one. Before going into it Stone (Gossard) was like,
"What if we just do four songs at the end of Mudhoney's set?" I was like, "You know people are kind of hoping that we'd do a full set." He was talking like that before the first practice, but then afterwards he sends this email throwing out all these other songs that he wants to do.
ST: We're doing a few songs from the really early days of Green River.
MA: Yeah, like demo songs from when it was a four-piece.

  • Sorry if this isn't directly on the subject but I need a ticket for Saturday's Sub Pop Festival. I decided last minute to go but I could only get Sunday's ticket. Saturday seems to be sold out. I'm flying all the way from Ohio so if anyone has an extra Saturday ticket, PM me please.

I have a room at Redmond Inn next to Marymoor Park so if anyone wants to share the room or trade Saturday's ticket for staying in the room, that'd be great.
...And he who forgets will be destined to remember.

...I swear I never took it for granted. Just thought of it now.
  • bump. I still need a ticket to Saturday's portion of the Sub Pop Festival. Thanks if anyone can help out!

I once went for a long gay bike ride with Dan Peters if that counts for anything
