Bush says: "We're kicking ass in Iraq"

For those of you that didn't think Bush was already severely delusional a.k.a. insane...
http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2007/09/06/bush-on-iraq-were-kicking-ass/

"President Bush made a surprise visit to Iraq last weekend, he made clear he was pleased with what he saw.

"The security situation is changing," Bush told reporters during the visit. "There's more work to be done. But reconciliation is taking place."

But according to the Sydney Morning Herald of Australia, the president gave a more-to-the-point assessment to Australia Deputy Prime Minister Mark Vaile.

"We're kicking ass," Bush said"

Somebody needs to update Webster's dictionary entries for oppression and murder to now include the term "kicking ass"
Progress is not made by everyone joining some new fad,
and reveling in it's loyalty. It's made by forming coalitions
over specific principles, goals, and policies.

Wow. I'm going to have to concur with your assessment that he's delusional. Kicking ass has now lost all meaning. This is fucking depressing.

Obviously 'We're kicking ass' is politico speak for 'we're bringing this country freedom and democracy'.

Still, what does anyone expect from this silly little frat boy President?

the reason we cant leave Iraq and Afghanistan is because the Taliban beat the Russians in the 80's and the Russians Retreated... if the US retreats and is "defeated" by Muslim Radicals, the world will soon come to an end... that would mean that Terrorists can stand up to and defeat the worlds "SuperPowers".... this would be a HUGE Issue.

The U.S Government is doing a good enough job of defeating the U.S. Why bring insurgents/'terrorists' into the equation? They're just a scapegoat.

And as far as the world coming to an end...can you please elaborate? That boat left me on the island.

actually...this thread...and libs like you are amusing :D

you are so out of touch with regular Americans...and regular people. you have chuckie schumer saying that the American troops are incapable of anything, you have absolute vacant heads like grandma pelosi basically saying they don't care what's actually happening in Iraq...they will stick to their "failed policy" talking points. The left is invested in defeat. period. and it's so transparent.

at what point do you divorce yourself from the defeatist strategy. at what point do you put country ahead of ideology? well...i'm guessing people here put ideology ahead of country...but how 'bout the Dems? i mean, they have elections to win.

to me...it's hilarious watching the far left take over and completely destroy the democrat party. george mcgovern even thinks you're over the edge.

That's what I love about being a Libertarian! I have libs calling me a neocon and neocons calling me a lib! ;)

I was a proponent for our action in Afghanistan. It was for a real, specific reason. I'm not anti-war. But the Iraq action was a clusterfuck from the start. It continues to be a clusterfuck. How many of the 18 objectives of the surge have been accomplished at this point? Let me know if you need me to tell you. That number does not indicate that an ass kicking is currently in progress. In fact, it indicates that we are not meeting any reasonable standards of success. I know an ass kicking when I see it. Iraq is not one of them.

Did you see the video of Cheney talking about why we didn't invade Bagdad and topple Saddam in Gulf I? He gave a lot of great reasons why it wouldn't be a good idea. Each of those reasons came to fruition after Gulf II. He must have suffered a bout of Alzheimer's and pulled W's strings the wrong way.

don't even start this. seriously, which party has allowed the neocons to take over and put profit over people with endless war and occupation? who pushed the PNAC agenda? do NOT even give me that bullshit about the dems putting ideology ahead of country right now because it was the GOP who did it first. the dems are trying to reverse all of the fuck ups that the current administration has made, and i do not blame them one bit for trying. something has to be done because we are on a train thats about to roll off the tracks. they do have elections to win, and believe me, the rate its going it is going to be ugly for the GOP in november 2008.

that is true but i was referring to the massive majority the gop had in congress a few election cycles ago. under the congressional rules at that time the dems could not even propose ammendments to proposed legislation, and at that time if they opposed anything they were called unpatriotic. so by going along with it reluctantly or not they were just as guilty as the gop.

I've personally never looked at what's happening in Iraq in terms of 'Success',
or looked at any of these recent wars in terms of 'If 'we' win then it's justified. The invasion of Afghanistan was a criminal activity, and completely unjustified, and the invasion of Iraq was also a crime, and without justification.
  • If anyone hasn't seen the movie "Amazing Grace" you should. It mirrors in many ways the times we are in currently. The story of William Wilberforce.

My use of success was in terms of measuring against stated objectives, morality notwithstanding. I understand your point.

You may look at Afghanistan as criminal. I saw it as a retaliation against Al Queda which was justified in my mind. I make no apologies for that. I just wish we'd have focused instead of being subject to W's ADHD. He couldn't keep his eye on the objective and had to derail it to go after Saddam.

I just don't believe that the way to deal with 'terrorists', or any other criminal organization, is to bomb a whole country back into the stone age.

    It's a great movie.

John Newton, author of the famous hymn Amazing Grace used to be a slave ship master who became an Abolitionist.

"(John Newton) Among his greatest contributions to history was encouraging Wilberforce, a Member of Parliament for Hull, to stay in Parliament and "serve God where he was", rather than enter the ministry. Wilberforce heeded the ex-slave ship captain's advice, and spent the next twenty years working for the abolition of the slave trade in the British Empire."

John Newton is played by Albert Finney...superb acting.

They did it back then (exploit) for financial gain...it's happening again now. History repeating.

Oh sweet irony....sweet sweet irony. Amazing.
Speaking of elections....I can't recall....which party introduced the "vote" on authorizing military action in Iraq just in time for the 2002 mid terms...and then smeared their opponents and Al Qaeda sympathizers or worse??? I can't recall. Can u help?

Apparantly PH can't come back and justify all the points against him? And the comment that I bolded, um, hello we are regular Americans, regular people, it's impossible to be out of touch. Perhaps you are though, it's pretty blatant that are stiffly Republican unwilling to see that this war isn't going well.

Hahaha. I guess the right is invested in "winning" (whatever that might be)? Let me know when that happens. Maybe in another 5 years, after another 5000 Americans die, we can all have a big victory in Iraq celebration. Fucking Bush should just install a dictator that is "friendly" to the US for the time being and stop fucking about. That way, he and Cheney can still make their cash and no more Americans would die for nothing. By the time the new dictator turns against America, it will be someone else's problem anyway. Isn't that the American way?
