CBC is airing this on TV right now.

Looking back at this movie, it is astonishing how accurate and revealing it was/is.

It really solidifies how much of a farce the Iraq war really is.

Bush's hopeless failure as a president summed up in a couple hours.

Brutal.

Michael totally nailed it.
Progress is not made by everyone joining some new fad,
and reveling in it's loyalty. It's made by forming coalitions
over specific principles, goals, and policies.

Great movie. Well deserving of it's 25 award wins and 12 nominations. It's interesting how the corporate mainstream media succeeded in largely trashing the movie, in spite of it's wide acclaim and praise from the majority of film critics.

It took guts to put this movie out at the time that he did, it was needed with all the groundswell behind the war at the time. I was in London when it premiered and I can remember the enthuiasm we all felt upon it's release in England.

My musician freind Michael Franti had just returned from Iraq on a peace tour of Baghdad and wrote some beautiful powerful songs and filmed a documentary ("I Know I'm Not Alone") on what he saw there. It wasn't pretty.

*MUSIC IS the expression of EMOTION.....and that POLITICS IS merely the DECOY of PERCEPTION*

I was flipping back and forth from the movie last night. One of, if not, the highlight is when he is asking the senators to sign their children up. Spineless, fucking cowards they were.

yeah, damn those senators for not signing up their kids who are 18 and can make their own decisions. I know where you're going with this and the point is taken, but going about it like that doesn't help the cause.

There is more then one point. Such as the senators actually looking over the same bullshit pictures that we saw on the news and believing them to be true. They knew what was going on.

Second: Moore was pointing out that the rich would not enlist and probably be the first to wave their white flags, grow their beards and pull out the praying mats if and when you ever got invaded.

Funny you say they are 18 and can make their own decisions which I agree with. But not one stepped up to the plate with a smug look to claim that. Run, run, run and send the lessers to the slaughter.

Kind of like the senators putting on their protective jackets the other day when they were fired upon in Iraq. Where were those for the boys and girls sent over there to protect your valueable way of life.

For the most part the only people who seem to harp on Moore are the same people who like war from this side of the ocean.

if this is the "epic struggle of our time between good and evil"

you would think that more politicians would push their kids to enlist... like the bush girls.

I watched this in Uber-conservative Plano, Tx. The theater was packed and I remember feeling a bit of promise that people will at least open their eyes a bit to Iraq and see what really was going on. Especially right at the end, when Bush was bumbling the "fool me twice, once shame on me" line and a guy shouted what an idiot.

Let us not forget...Eddie and the boys knew about this farce before we invaded as well....just listen to a few boots prior to invasion. Toronto comes to mind........."Lets do a survey...ah like they do in the states...ah ah ah yea ah ah well they probably do them here tooo" ...good stuff.

Roland, I'm sure you saw Bowling For Columbine. Do you think Moore gave an accurate picture of healthcare in Canada? If not, then there are only two explanations; 1. he lied on purpose, or 2. he's too stupid to get it right. You choose.

suggest you go see these movies prior to being critical of them.

It's "Bowling for Columbine" not blowing....only Bush is blowing...hot air....Bowling is about Amerikins fetish with guns.
    "Sicko" was about healthcare.

Once you actually watch his movies..you'll see the message is correct...is he skewed, sure....but the message is clear and accurate.

To blast Moore with such a wide brush is acting ignorant....he cares for this country and is attempting to stand up against governement....God Bless Michael Moore.

    Relax, it ws a typo.

I watched Bowling For Columbine and Moore was factually wrong about healthcare in Canada. There's only two explanations for it; he lied on purpose or he's too stupid to get it right. You choose.

People pick on Moore's ability to tell the truth because he has problems with the truth. His movies would be more powerful if he didn't resort to lies to make his points. Once he starts using lies to make his points it becomes pure propaganda. My life is too full to sit through another 90 minutes of propaganda from Moore or anyone else.

I also have to wonder what your understanding of Canada's healthcare system is to conclude that Moore was only skewed in his presentation of lies.

  • i really enjoy moore's films. he brings disturbing but important information to light and helps to show some of the sick processes and operations that go on almost entirely unbeknownst to the average person. the only thing that DOES bother me is he's a bit of an asshole that acts entirely different in real life than the image he personifies. his average little man act kind of dissipates when he refuses to visit certain talk shows if they don't provide a certain amount of a certain bottled water. he once made a statement that 'if any blacks feel discriminated against, come work for me, i'll give you a job!' despite the fact moore has only hired 3 african americans throughout all of his work and projects...this is compounded by the fact that he stated in 'stupid white men' "if you're white and you want to make a difference, start with yourself," despite the fact he sent his daughter to a private school with virtually no african american students present. he also tends to make some unneccessary exhaggerations; for example, in bowling for columbine he uses the 'weapons' factory in columbine as a contributor to the teens' obsession with violence. he never mentioned though that this factory only crafted rockets that launch t.v satellites into space.
people who have worked for/with moore, including former manager douglas urbanski have charged moore with being 'difficult to work with, hypocritical in his treatment of employees', and 'money-obsessed.' i mean....the guy DID claim he gave a third of his income away to charities, and it's been proven since that that's not even close to being true.
moore's publically available irs documents show he has shares in some of the very companies he has spent so much energy in the past criticizing as being 'corrupt' and 'evil.' need i mention the tens of thousands of share's moore's foundation has in HALLIBURTON?....little shady, yeah? moore also calls american neighborhoods racist, even though in his beachfront home he's surrounded by 2600 neighbors, ZERO of whom are black.
like i said, i respect his films and their messages immensely; i just don't think we need to crawl up his ass TOO far. i agree with columnist janet street-porter in that moore is a victim of his own success.

bowling for columbine definitely isn't about healthcare, but moore DOES briefly discuss canada's healthcare system compared to ours in the film, as he also discusses their housing projects and various other comparison points. just a note.

as for the halliburton thing, simply google 'michael moore, shares, halliburton' and there will be a wealth of information from various websites and sources, and i assure you--as someone who's far more to the left--many of these are definitely NOT simply right-wing, conservative sites.

  • the main point i was trying to make is that michael moore has proudly proclaimed he 'does not own a single share of stock.' but his foundations irs documents DO show that he owns several thousand shares in boeing, sonoco, best foods, and many others including, yes, halliburton. this isn't some skewed piece of information. this is information publically available from IRS tax documents. even if halliburton WASN'T one of them (which it is), it's still disappointing. why feel the need to claim you don't own stock when you do? just weird to me.

i bet you believe ghostbusters was real too. those of us who payed attention knew we were going into iraq before bush was elected. he made it clear that if saddam doesn't allow UN inspections; we'd go in and inspect ourselves.

just for fun; explain how someone sitting on their fat arse in california knew where all the government officials were and what they were thinking at that point in time.
