Afghanistan now accounts for 93 percent of the global production of opium, up from 70 percent in 2000, a United Nations report released on August 27 says.

"The situation is dramatic and getting worse by the day," said Antonio Maria Costa of the UN Office of Drugs and Crime (UNODC).

Progress is not made by everyone joining some new fad,
and reveling in it's loyalty. It's made by forming coalitions

this might be the reason the afghans have not kicked us the fuck out of their country...their gov't is making too much money in the opium trade and need us to help them "secure" their country.

Why can't it be traded legally for use in medicines. I don't understand why farmers are being told not to grow it and to replace their crops with something else. They'll never win that battle.

Am I the only one that saw the humor in the title?

    Guess so.
Believe me, when I was growin up, I thought the worst thing you could turn out to be was normal, So I say freaks in the most complementary way. Here's a song by a fellow freak - E.V
  • Opium is huge money. Not for addict on the street but for large pharmaceutical corporations.

It's hand in hand cash and carry.

I believe if one cares to google around...you will see some associations and family ties to big money, and the opium trade going way back.

    Maybe it's all coincidence...

but then again...those crops could all be sprayed by air and be gone in a couple weeks/months if they wanted to...
