"Archived documents discovered at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's website reveal the agency knew in 2003 that HPV infections did not cause cervical cancer. Despite that knowledge, the FDA has continued to support the use of the Gardasil vaccine in compulsory vaccinations programs like the one announced in Texas earlier this year.

The FDA's own press release from 2003 admits that, "Most women who become infected with HPV are able to eradicate the virus [without intervention] and suffer no apparent long-term consequences to their health... most infections are short-lived and not associated with cervical cancer." Yeah, I'm not that big a fan of a compulsory vaccination programme and would be more likely to support an education programme and personal choice option when it comes to the Guardasil vaccination, however I don't doubt the science behind the vaccination or the necessity for it. I'd be more likely to take the research and scientific knowledge and findings of Prof. Ian Frazer, the vaccine's inventor and discoverer, over a consumer advocate with a journalist background as seems to be the case in this article.

I'm not sure whether this situation is questionable or not but I'm will to be that questionable situations pop up, or should pop up all the time with many drugs

Compulsory vaccinations are wrong. Willingly getting the HPV vaccination is quite right.

There is a mountain of evidence showing that some HPV infections can lead to various forms of cancer. The politicization of Gardasil is very sad. Get your daughters vaccinated!

I used to work for a cytology laboratory and registry. 13 years of pap smears. The vaccine is a good thing.

I hope it's not to late to generate more discussion regarding HPV. I tend to think it is a cancer causing virus. I don't know much about the vaccine but I am learning.

HPV does cause cancer and and if ya think it doesn't you are seriously mistaken. According to a local physician who I am familiar, says that almost everybody carries the strain inside your blood and approximately 50% of the population will become affected. Most people's immune system will ward off the virus but those who have depleted immune systems will carry the virus for life and will be examined quarterly in the same respect as a cancer patient.

The cells are rated mild, moderate, severe and extremely severe. (severe being precancerous or cancerous--abnormal cells that mutate and fail to heal defines cancer in my dictionary) I am wondering if women of "yesteryear" who died from stomach cancer might have really contracted the virus and becasue of lack of knowledge, the virus possilbe traveled up the fallopian tubes spreading to the intestinal tract...it's just a thought, but HPV virus is prevailant and the best way to prevent exposure is safe sex practice and monogamous sexual relationships...

Men carry it and women pay the consequence...

However, my doctor friend did not recommend the vaccine...and also expressed there is no way to detect the virus in males until his female partner has symptoms.
