A new study this week confirms the NDP's charge that ordinary Canadians are getting hosed at the pumps. For every litre of gas Canadians buy, 15 to 27 cents is being pumped right into the pockets of big oil and gas. The NDP is challenging Stephen Harper to stand up to his big oil buddies, set up a monitoring agency and launch a public inquiry to ensure fairness at the pumps.

Layton (the leader? of the NDP) is an idiot. I'd rather get hosed by a gas company than by the government. At least when it's the gas company I have options and can fairly easily make lifestyle changes to get hosed the least possible. The government, once they get a hook in you it's there for life and it just goes in deeper and deeper.

Even if we're getting ripped off $0.20 a litre and you use 50 ltired a week that's about $500 a year. I'd gladly pay that $500 just to keep the government out of my life as far as gas goes. I think we could all say with fair certainty that a gov't program designed to save us $500 dollars a year as consumers would very soon start costing us an additional $1,000 in taxes.

Plus the high gas prices helps get people out of their cars. You'd think a so called green leader like Layton would want this. Layton has no idea what he wants, he's waiting for the next opinion poll to tell him what he thinks on the subject.

You really think lowering gas prices is looking at for the environment? You really think this, if legislated, isn't going to become a colossal waste of money. Guess which Maritime province has the highest gas prices.... that's right the regulated province. The only four things you can trust gov't (and by proxy gov't programs) to do are; lie to you, fuck things up, waste your money, and then lie to you about fucking things up and wasting your money.

At the very least (if successful...but it is corrupt big oil) the program should pay for itself and send the right message. I agree that most any form of gov't will feed and suck from the people. It's a matter of who will do it the least...

Layton's approach in this regard is notable compared to others.

Oil company are worse than the mafia, since what they're doing is all legal. But there are some easy solutions, buy less gas and try to find independant gas station and encourage them. Jack Layton and govt. can't do much about it, other than nationalize it to lower the cost and take the profits. We're pruducing more gas than our needs in Canada, and still they give us bullshit about gas price going up because of a crisis in Iran, blablablabla ,fuckers.
