Progress is not made by everyone joining some new fad,
and reveling in it's loyalty. It's made by forming coalitions
over specific principles, goals, and policies.

    America:

"We're not a bridge to the 21st century, we're on a bus to Atlantic City with a roll of quarters".

    :D

Thanks for sharing. I've heard some of the Europeans on the board trying to make the exact point regarding America not being number one in many ways, even though there seem to be myths that are held to in America which somewhat illusionally state otherwise. To hear the statistics lends support to what the Europeans are saying.

What are you referring to? Did you watch the clip?

What did you think of the comment that being number one is not a birthright, but that it is based on actual achievement?

exactly, this is the land of opportunity. this isn't the land where you are just the best, you know, just because. so as for opportunity, we should be #1. how many people are taking advantage of this is the question,...

what does that prove? it doesn't seem to contradict any of the facts stated in that video clip. he's spot on... america is coasting on its former glories. we're still buying that "greatest generation" crap while we work hard to make sure it was the last great american generation. i dont believe for a second we couldn't have oil alternatives in the next 5 years. the technology isnt there yet is a bullshit excuse. when our forefathers wanted to go to the moon, the president said we're going to the moon and they fucking made it happen. when we needed to beat the germans to the atom bomb, we got the top dogs together (many of whom were not from here i might add) and fucking built the atom bomb. now we just whine about how hard it is and how it might be kinda expensive to do and heaven forbid ford take a profit cut in the meantime (as if the fact that the japenese build cars ten times better than we do already has nothing to do with their profit loss). when we had to mobilize for world war 2, our factories went into overdrive to turn out decent products... now our workers are so spoiled and marginalized we have to send the work overseas to get it done. when we weren't involved in foreign affaris we did not go meddling in other people's business but stood ready to defend the oppressed when called upon to do so. now we meddle in foreign affairs willy nilly and ignore the cries of help from those who are truly oppressed.

who said its intent was to contradict anything? You should look before you leap to asumptions. You know what happens when you assume dont you? ;)

i dont know, it was posted in a bill maher thread, so i guess i figured you were intelligent enough to post something on point. once again it seems i've over-estimated. i wont be making that assumption anymore.

Ya know, im thinking you didnt take advantage of enough college girls, not due to choice, but due to personality disorder. Bill gave no facts, just made statements. Some of which I agree with, and so, i posted a site that contained some facts. Which part wasn't intelligent enough for the all knowing soulsinging?

hehe, dish it out but not take it eh? anyway, did you miss the part where he mentioned the us rankings on things like infant mortality and literacy? those are facts buddy. yeah, he didnt read a graduate-level poli sci dissertation, but time is a little short on a tv show for phd analysis. the link you posted did have other facts, but none were of any relevance.

meow, lil fluffy pussy-cat has its claws out. And yes, i did notice the us rankings he mentioned. I think its sad, it IS time to start re-confirming why we are the best place in the world to live. There's many reasons he didnt list that support JUST THAT. But yes, we need to re-claim many of our lost goals. Thats for sure.

and that was his point. we're complacent. so... what were you saying about his lack of facts? sounds like you're admitting to exactly what he was saying... just dont like hearing bill maher say it do you? cos then you'd have to admit that you cannot dismiss all liberals ideas summarily.
  • Thanks for posting this. Bill was dead on here. Makes me really miss my HBO.

i just know your schtick. and you couldn't wait to (falsely) claim that bill provided no facts when, in fact, he clearly did. im still waiting for an explanation of the relevance of the world book entry, aside from yoru crude attempt to minimize the accuracy of bill maher's assessment.
