For those interested in watching. All the full frontline PBS shows online. The return of the Taliban was interesting.

http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/view/

If you play them in real player format you can right click on the movie and choose view in Real Player to make the screen larger.

Frontline is some of the best TV content available.

I like PBS, because it's funded by independent sources, it's not as bias as most of the crap out there.

Frontline is one of the only 2 or 3 things I can stomach on TV. The Meth series was pretty shocking. The last one of the series on OJ was a bit of an eye opener with regards to the mindset of black culture living in America. Can't say I blame them one bit.

It's a shame the public has to cough up money straight out to bring forth shows like this. Cable TV is mostly just corporate sponsored junk...

Exactly. I've actually found PBS to appear conservative and liberal, depends on what you are looking for I guess. I think in most part they aren't either.

On the other hand, liberals are more liberal with money and probably not too many conservatives fund PBS, cause they are all like misers that won't do anything not for profit. Stereotyping is great.

hehe. I can see bias at times but it's pretty thin and insignificant overall, however I think they try very hard at times to not to sound like just another bunch of conspiracy nuts.

I saw an excellent Iraq docu on the documentary channel last night. It was a terrific expose on Bush. I can't seem to find it online anywhere. Man they sure served him up nicely. It was scathing, I hope a lot of people watched it.

    Must see TV!

I like PBS, and think Frontline is a great show. I also like Soundstage and Austin City Limits. I'm a contributor, too. But what does "independent sources" mean? It receives some gov't funding, so isn't there a risk of being required to tow the gov't line? It also receives grants from foundations that exist for various reasons. There are also corporate donations, and we know how people around here like to highlight the evils of corporations and the terrorism they fund.

Yea, but PBS isn't funded by an elite ring of corporations, they are funded by hundreds and "Viewers like you". They have to keep everyone's interests in perspective and I think that forces them into a more middle-ground with a slight liberal bias.

  • As per their site:

"Major funding is provided by The Richard and Rhoda Goldman Foundation. Additional funding is provided by The Nathan Cummings Foundation. Funding for FRONTLINE is provided by the Park Foundation and through the support of PBS viewers."

Haven't look into the individual foundations, however, I think FL is about as honest as it gets for TV.

I vote every election, but still don't feel represented, since I tend not to vote for the eventual winner.

Good info. I tend to agree with you about Frontline. I definitely like the show -- I wasn't trying to knock the show at all.

Hey no worries, it was a good question. It's like we all have to flip things over a couple times and look at them before we can trust anything anymore...

Damn that Bush, and his campaign of lies! :D

I voted NDP last run because red was dead.

I actually didn't make it out to the voting booth, but I was going to vote for Irene Mathyssen the NDP rep in my zone.

It's interesting because I asked a workmate, a young guy, at the time, "Who did you vote for?" and he said "Harper" and so I asked "Why?" and he said "I don't know."

Well, that's an interesting answer to a serious decision. "I chose to vote in the PM because I don't know why." Doesn't that defeat the purpose of voting? I get the impression that a lot of people vote only for "bitching rights" or to be "patriotic". I investigated all the party leaders and history and in the end, I still wasn't sure the NDP was a good vote, but it was my best judgement and I had actual reasons I was voting for them. I think a lot of people got brainwashed by Harper's excellent campaign.

Well there is another one for you.

What's the relevance of comparing "religious conservatives" to "secular liberals", what about "Religious liberals" and "Secular conservatives"?

I don't donate to United Way or anything, but I drop all of my change in those donation boxes at the stores. Let's see, I spend $1.58 on coffee, I pay with a $2 coin, that leaves $0.42 change, I give a tip of $0.25 and put $0.17 in the charity box for each coffee I purchase, plus what other change I have in my pocket. I purchase 3 coffees a day, 365 days a year. So I donate around $200 a year to the Tim Horton's Children's Fund. That's about the best I can do on my salary anyway.

I think a lot of people vote that way. I got creepy vibes from Harper, I would like to see Layton in full capacity at least once. I signed up to his weekly newsletter and upon reading them found myself thinking fuck yeah I'm glad someone is actually bringing forth and challenging the issues. From what I can see Layton seems to genuinely care for the citizens and the overall health of world as a whole.

I think a lot of people vote mindlessly according to whatever the majority appears to be regardless of who is going in at the time. It's almost like voting for softdrinks....Coke, Pepsi, or that "other" brand which is V8. The first two are all the rage, but the V8 is the one that is actually good for you.

That's pretty noble. My ex jilted me on the whole donating generously thing. She would get about 3 calls a week always during dinner from the various foundations she donated to asking for more money. It used to freak me out, because she couldn't say no and they would keep her on the phone forever trying to close her on a higher donation.

I've given in the past to the kids in Africa. If it wasn't for the fact that I'd probably get sick and die of malaria or contract something else , I'd go there to volunteer.

You should consider checking out the Canadian Action Party. I am amazed at how "Conspiracy"ish they are. They come right out and say our monetary system is control by international conglomerates and they want to refine Canada's monetary system, they have a lot of information on it actually. They are also opposed to NAFTA for the most part. Anyway, check em out.

Very interesting (and scary). This party definitely needs more visibility, if only to make more people aware of what's going. City TV should throw them some free air time. I'll probably forward this link around to the masses. Thanks.

Connie Fogal was on Alex Jones radio show one night. It was interesting, I think Alex wanted her to say more than she was actually willing to say. She wanted to talk about NAFTA and he wanted to talk about the Global Elites.

Alex would probably have her dancing and chanting around a burning effigy of Bush. Jones should totally run for president. Jones...the name you trust. Damn that would be funny to see. Connie probably has her head in the right place however she should be careful how closely she affiliates herself with the conspiracy agenda. Better yet 60 mins should pick her up for a spot on American TV.

I got the impression she isn't as full-on as Alex Jones. Connie is trying to do it politically, so the same tactics aren't going to cut it. Fact is, if CAP ever takes off, her appearence on Alex Jones is probably going to bite her in the ass.
