that's a bit misleading...we lead in the percentage of people who have ever used those drugs, not those currently using...i don't know those stats.

I'm too busy for any of those things.

I really need a vacation so I can help maintain this country's dominance in pot, cocaine and beer.

Yeah, but that kind of takes the fun out of this thread:D
  • i thought we all agreed to stop smoking cigarettes?

but i think we need to make a strong push to get our alcohol consumption up.

edit: oh its percentage of people who've ever tried that stuff.

I picked up this vibe from you in another thread....I had a feeling it was coming. The "problem" so to speak is not emanating from my country.

Which is also why I talk a fair bit about Israel and Palestine....if you haven't noticed.

If only more Us citizens did the same...sigh...

If my Country was instigating the framework for world war III...you can bet the balance of my interest would shift dramatically.

    sour grapes...

This ranking is especially impressive since both Cocaine and smokes supress your appetite so that you eat less, yet the US is also a world leader in obesity.

Oh that explains it. The Country that never had to spend a dime on its own National Security because it got a free ride for 60 years from its neighbor to the South?? Oh how easy it is to cast stones from the great white north. Seriously, maybe you ought to worry about all the Eskimos your country is staring and oppressing and stop worrying about the poor little suicide bombing Palestinians.

I apologize on behalf of this American. Clearly, he should be taking more drugs like the rest of us.

Eskimos.....yeah they catch fish, and smile at you most of the time. Really scary people...

It's people that think like you that are worrying to me.

I'm not a big fan of black rain from nuclear fallout.

Thanks for the big macs though (it's almost worth getting the case of the shits they give you after eating them). ;)

Opposing the drug war in Canada is near futile. The US pressures our government to put an end to any drug law reform, and the threat of strained trade relations and a lighter wallet is enough to make most voters not care if our drug laws are flawed....also, a good portion of those voters are brainwashed by the American anti (non pharmaceutical)drug propaganda machine.
The obvious point that you're missing is that the US walks around with a big fucking stick ($$$), threatening anyone who doesn't play by their rules. And this study shows that those rules, if anything, only make things worse.

I'm not touching the eskimo comments...
But Ive heard this 'free ride' bullshit so many times (usually from Canadians supportive of US foreign policy)....

Exactly why do you feel that Canada needs a big national security budget? Ya, we are under constant threat of invasion
Or do we need a huge military to fight TERROR? the only (recent) terrorist threats against Canada came because we followed our allies to war.

Or... do you want us to spend all that money to stop TERROR from coming to destroy America via Canada? The US can secure it's own borders if it wants to...

Also....even if we DID have some BS reason to have a huge military, we simply couldn't afford one. Our entire middle class would have to give up ALL of our income to finance a military of US proportion. Our population is like 40 mil....look the size of our coast and border. It's not feasible, nor is it logical. I don't think we owe you any favours, unless you count dragging us into Afghanistan a favour. It's always been in the US's best interests to have peaceful neighbours, everyone knows that. The security-by-proximity you think of as a 'free ride' for us is a natural by-product of sitting atop a powder keg.

If the US wasn't so uptight about it, it probably would be by now, or thereabouts ;)

Nopes. It seems every time the possession laws loosen up, the US politicians get cranky and it tightens up again.

It was a bullshit bill, full of appeasement's that made no sense (lighter possession penalties, harsher growing penalties)...it never passed. Then the Conservatives ( :D ) caved completely and declared it dead....even tho our own Canadian Senate Special Committee on Illegal Drugs recommended otherwise, and the public supports decrim and medicinal MJ.
    anyway...

hehe...I thought 'Eskimo' was given it's PC banishment long ago?...the thought of us 'staring eskimo's' reminds me of our practice of setting our seniors adrift on ice flows to die (ala Talking To Americans).
