Monsanto.....field of lies and broken dreams...

"Genetic modification actually cuts the productivity of crops, an authoritative new study shows, undermining repeated claims that a switch to the controversial technology is needed to solve the growing world food crisis.
The study – carried out over the past three years at the University of Kansas in the US grain belt – has found that GM soya produces about 10 per cent less food than its conventional equivalent, contradicting assertions by advocates of the technology that it increases yields.
Professor Barney Gordon, of the university's department of agronomy, said he started the research – reported in the journal Better Crops – because many farmers who had changed over to the GM crop had "noticed that yields are not as high as expected even under optimal conditions". He added: "People were asking the question 'how come I don't get as high a yield as I used to?'"
He grew a Monsanto GM soybean and an almost identical conventional variety in the same field. The modified crop produced only 70 bushels of grain per acre, compared with 77 bushels from the non-GM one.
The GM crop – engineered to resist Monsanto's own weed killer, Roundup – recovered only when he added extra manganese, leading to suggestions that the modification hindered the crop's take-up of the essential element from the soil. Even with the addition it brought the GM soya's yield to equal that of the conventional one, rather than surpassing it. "

Progress is not made by everyone joining some new fad,

"Now, biochemical industry giants are making seeds themselves infertile. You sow them this year, and that's it. For next year's crop, you need brand new seeds -- you would have to buy them, of course.
Twenty-five years ago, there were at least 7,000 seed growers worldwide, and none of them controlled more than one percent of the global market. Today, after a takeover spree, 10 major biochemical multinationals, including Monsanto, DuPont-Pioneer, Syngenta, Bayer Cropsciencie, BASF, and Dow Agrosciences, control more than 50 percent of the seeds market.
"The goal of these companies is, of course, to make profits," Benedict Haerling, researcher at the German non-governmental organisation Future of Agriculture, told IPS. "In order to improve their profits, they all apply one strategy to increase their control of the market: they impose upon farmers worldwide the so-called vertical integration of inputs, from seeds to fertilisers to pesticides, all from one brand." Compulsory customer loyalty, you might call it.
And through biochemical manipulation, including genetic modifications, many companies have made sure the harvest you obtain cannot be sown again. "

GM foods should be labeled.
But this list of harmful effects is not forthright.
#1 on the list:
Recorded Deaths from GM In 1989, dozens of Americans died and several thousands were afflicted and impaired by a genetically altered version of the food supplement – L-tryptophan. A settlement of $2 billion dollars was paid by Showa Denko, Japan’s third largest chemical company. (Mayeno and Gleich, 1994).
But if you look up the report:
http://www.sciencedirect.com/science?_ob=ArticleURL&_udi=B6TCW-4D5NX4B-45&_user=5672214&_coverDate=09%2F30%2F1994&_rdoc=3&_fmt=high&_orig=browse&_srch=doc-info(%23toc%235181%231994%23999879990%23515149%23FLP%23display%23Volume)&_cdi=5181&_sort=d&_docanchor=&_ct=10&_acct=C000068075&_version=1&_urlVersion=0&_userid=5672214&md5=f019dc42907fc1f2f3174af6dded20e7
there is no indication that the deaths had to do with GM.
This guy promotes natural medicines.....i.e. clinically unproven. He is ripping people off with unproven alternative therapies. He even includes on his website a 'natural' therapy for AIDS. You can't seriously be taking info from this guy?
He has as much to gain from the smearing of 'GM' crops as the 'GM' companies have to gain from promoting them.

Good Link. Thanks, Roland.

As I was reading, I noticed he cited several studies and quoted respected people from the field.
I found the "Action You Can Take" section informative and helpful.
I'm sure he's not the only person out there concerned about what GM is doing to our food supply and the land on which it grows.

I was first introduced to their tactics (as a late bloomer) through The Corporation.
They are disturbing to say the least.
