Is Democracy officially dead in the United States?

Democracy:
If so...why is it spreading?
- Government by the people, exercised either directly or through elected representatives.
- The common people, considered as the primary source of political power.
- Majority rule.
- The principles of social equality and respect for the individual within a community.
If so...why is it spreading?
Progress is not made by everyone joining some new fad,
and reveling in it's loyalty. It's made by forming coalitions
over specific principles, goals, and policies.

Dwight D. Eisenhower:
"In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist.
"*We must never let the weight of this combination endanger our liberties or democratic processes*. We should take nothing for granted. Only an alert and knowledgeable citizenry can compel the proper meshing of the huge industrial and military machinery of defense with our peaceful methods and goals, so that security and liberty may prosper together."
It seems someone is tying to push an anti-democratic philosophy worldwide at the moment.
The predictions seem to be coming true. Look at the signs
One country pumping trillions of dollars endlessly into it's military industrial complex...trillons of dollars go missing even. Stolen money with no actual investigation...all to spread a philosophy around the world.
A country burdening the lives of of it's (great) grandchildren with debt. You have to ask yourself what for.
Why is it that none of this actual democracy seems to be taking place in the country of origin? Is it all an illusion?
It would seem to be somewhat of a false promise with a hidden agenda.
An attack on every citizens right to live in a democratic and fair society.
A country that is going into record breaking debt, even neglecting it's own citizens in times of need, and the health of it's people over it's (seemingly endless) military objectives worldwide.
Building base, after base, after base, of military presence around the globe.
Reality can't be based on hypocrisy, it has to ring true otherwise the plan is flawed and should not be followed.

what I mean is, has power ever really been moved from the elite to the masses?
I've been looking for his inaugural speech ever since I first saw it about a week or so ago. The words...the inspiration, the honesty, and effortless expression of seemingly genuine good will...
Night and day to the stuff we get now.

I can answer that question. Yes.
Just look at how much we are lied to. If it was not a democracy they would not even bother with lies (or knowledge). Most politicians strive for Americans to be best kept in their state of blissful indifference.
Don't confuse the existance of democracy with the desire to exercise it. And as we all know American's don't exercise squat. We just consume french fries and lies and revel in our gluttinous indifference.
That's the beauty of the American political system. Why have the state put the chains on when we will put them on ourselves.
