    If you can't see it, I'll describe it: A young soldier, in full dress uniform, with decorations on his chest, sits in a chair with his hands folded neatly in his lap.

    Except....he has no lap.

    His thighs, calves, and feet are now prosthetics.

    He could be my nephew Johnny. He could be any Timmy, Paul, Scott....any nephew, son, grandchild, brother.

    When will this end?

    A comment from one of my favorite HuffPo readers, Old Pot Smuggler:

    Casualties are a fact of war. Which is enough to make intelligent folks shun military use for any but completely unavoidable circumstances.

    And then there are those for whom sending troops into action clearly represents nothing more than moving the little markers around on the map on the table. How do we manage to pick so many of the later and so few of the former?
